Uh . . . . Yea! Any doubt? |
I would be concerend if more than 50% of the kids in the class are ADHD or something like that, but one or two kids in a class should be perctly OK. |
There will be 1-2 kids (mostly boys) who are extremely smart but just can't keep still in their seats. Then there will be 1-2 other "stealth" ADHD kids (like mine) who are very inattentive (spacey, mostly girls) who are in danger of falling through the cracks but will not affect your "normal" kid's GT experience. |
I wonder how much grades actually factor in. My daughter got into the program last year and while her test scores were great and GBRS was respectable (13), her grades on her actual report card were not the greatest. She had about four N's (Not in core academics, though) and while her achievement grades were decent (although not straight O's by any means) her effort grades were not that great. She got in with no appeal necessary. For what it is worth, she still got a couple of N's last year in completing work on time and that sort of thing, but her actual academic grades were MUCH better. |
Interesting info, PP. Grades are probably a distant third after test scores and GBRS. FWIW, my ADHD kid also had so-so grades in several work habits (organization, following through on assignments, listening to directions) but we'd already fully disclosed his condition in our parent letter, so the committee knew why those habits were trouble Got in without any problem. |
Did anyone found eligible on appeal choose Local Level IV at base school over Center placement? If so, why (and where)? |
Anybody got the acceptance letter by e-mail? My husband was the one filled out the forms and he told me that he got my DD's acceptance letter by e-mail. Also, when do we get the second round orientation for AAP who got accepted by appeal?? |
Read that email carefully. The only parents notified by email at our school had kids that were accepted into Local Level III services (not Local Level IV or the Center program). There is no orientation for successful appealers. You can try to call the center for an informal tour, but most of the schools are empty right now and will not offer anything until the open house at the end of August anyway. |
If your child was accepted for Level IV services on appeal, they would have received a snail mail letter from the County Programs Office (NOT the base school) on or around June 20th. Sounds like your email was from the base school not the programs office (and likely was notification of Level III services). The only email sent from the programs office comes AFTER the parent submits the "Permission for Placement" form for their child (which comes in the June 20th letter and is due back by July 1st). |
P.S. If you submitted an appeal, you would have gotten a snail mail letter from the County Programs office on June 20th even if your child was found ineligible. Your DH needs to find that letter. |
To 13:22,
Have you, or anyone received the so called email after the "permission for placement" was submitted? I have not. So I am wondering... |

Yes, on July 2, I received a brief "confirmation" email from the County Programs Office, acknowledging the choice that we made on the placement form (Local level IV instead of Center placement). If you sent your placement form but haven't received a confirmation email, I would call the Programs Office (it's on the website). Good luck! |
