He will get harassed in any high profile position. That's the nature of the beast today. Constant threats against public officials and their families. Moving won't stop that, sadly.

The way he resigned also demonstrates someone who seems rather unprofessional. There is CDC guidance against traveling to France, he vacationed there anyway. Then resigned without warning while on vacation and without giving people a heads up.

The emails he received were undeserved, but he’s not covering himself in glory.

Did no one really know? Elrich isn’t a fool, maybe he advised Gayles not to go and once he did then asked for his resignation.

Technically his chain of command and supervisors are the state government. Elrich had his back and defended him vigorously over the emails. I suspect he resigned due to something with his direct supervisors and it could be related to him vacationing in France against CDC guidance, like maybe threatening to leak a story to the press.

Yeah it would t surprise me at all if someone got some incriminating photos of him in France and resignation was the easier way out.

I hope someone in the media gets a hold of those photos. After all Gayles put our kids through last year.

And yet kids all over the country went to school last year and are miraculously still alive. Community transmission has been low here largely because this is a very cautious area, with a good dose of anxiety thrown in.

You don’t seem to have any knowledge about anything. I was not a fan of putting teachers lives at risk but you seem to have no clue when in-person learning resumed at MCPS last year. You may want to stick to commenting about things you have some idea or clue about.

Advised MCPS to quarantine entire classes for one kid having any symptom, including a headache, cough or diarrhea (hope the cafeteria food is top notch ....) for 10 days or negative test. Which makes it solely the responsibility of the kid's family who coughed to get a test pronto, which may not always happen and is disruptive for at least a day or two. This is entirely inconsistent with CDC guidance on a variety of levels.

It’s pretty clearly just Gayles and importantly, he works for the state. The county government is now reaping what it sowed for hyping that dude up when he was clearly incompetent. He seems to relish and crave the drama and it looks like he’s trying his best to solicit negative emails as he goes out to the door to place himself as some sort of victim. The guy resigned while on vacation is a place he was not even supposed to be. Totally unprofessional and they have delegated to him the right to determine not just the fate of kids education and the county’s economy? All because he got embarrassed by the Governor for his incompetence before and got a few nasty emails? Just bizarre.

He apparently gave them oral guidance not even in writing last week, if the media articles are correct, leading to numerous elementary school classes being quarantined amid the confusion. He got roasted on Twitter and rightfully so. Everyone is asking where’s he been the last 18 months. Meanwhile, he’s trying to somehow lay this at the feet of Elrich when Gayles works for the state and Elrich has no authority over MCPS. The Council does however have oversight authority over MCPS, which is quite ironic.

Riemer led the charge to zero out the MCPS budget at the legal minimum, maintenance of effort level. He never asked or confirmed with the BOE or McKnight that they have a plan in place and the resources needed to implement it. He’s now trying to score political points off his own incompetence by insinuating that Elrich is at fault because the BOE desperately came to him for funds to purchase rapid test kits that they did not budget for and the council did not appropriate money for.

Slimy would be a generous description of that dude.

It’s the height of incompetence that they implemented such a policy based on oral guidance alone.
