Official TJ Admissions Decisions Results for the Class of 2025

Waitlisted. And my son's friends who applied all waitlisted. In previous years the waitlist was around 50 students and actually meant a chance at an offer. Now, I suspect the wait pool is everyone that wasn't one of the 550 offered. I haven't heard of a single rejection yet. Honestly I think this false hope is cruel and I'm working on setting my son's expectations.

So did they admit almost 15% more this year because they've expanded the school, because they expect a lower acceptance rate, or because they expect a higher attrition rate?

Well, the schools been done for 5 years and the waitlist is there for a low acceptance rate. So, high attrition. Attrition is normally about 15%, so it will be a bloodbath.

Hispanic students increased the most. Good for them! I like to see diversity.

TJ Alum

My kid hispanic, Presidential awards, all honors classes, 3.9, Algebra II honors, didn’t get accepted, maybe because is not the right hispanic, he don’t receive FARMs and we didn’t check in multiracial box, clearly not the right kind of hispanic/latino kid.

The admissions process was race-blind.

The 2 factors that increase the most in the selection process was hispanic / latinos kids and the kids that received free or reduced lunch, we can deduct for what many have been saying here that are URM as well and high performing kids and have not been accepted well maybe they are not the right URM because they don’t receive free or reduced lunch.

So still high performing students? Great.

How hard is an A in an ELL or non-honors MS class? In 7th, the all got bumped due to COVID, and this was the year of we don’t given any zeros and unlimited makeups. Those GOAs aren’t reflective of anything and there is not standardized testing to balance it out.

Plus, I know kids in ELL. They all literally get straight all ELL classes.

That grading will stay. COVID was an excuse. It is part of an equity-based grading system. You can find the video explaining this on VDOE's YouTube channel.

LCPS is implementing much of this as well.
