TJHSST PTSA Election

There is a difference between voiding an election and resigning a position. One is done by an outside group, and the other is done by the individual themselves.

The current PTSA president, recognizing the toxicity of the situation and the irreparable damage that has been done by members of the previous, incoming, and future members of the executive board, has offered her resignation in exchange for that of the president-elect. it's an exceptional move and one that would result in a lot of healing prior to the school year starting.

That's not much of a trade, since the current president's term would be ending soon(has ended?).

I don't understand the numbers of alumni and parents who are over-invested in the process. It's easy to talk a grand game when you have nothing hanging in balance.

Jaime Escalante's school had lots of 5s on AP Calculus exam, representing the majority of Hispanic kids who did this nationwide in some years.
This school dropped off quickly once he stopped teaching.
Perhaps TJ alumni would like to prevent that from happening to TJ.

Some parents with very extreme political views and aggressive agendas and brains broken by Facebook took over the PTSA at TJ. But they were so toxic and deranged that the Virginia PTA revoked the TJ PTSA's charter.

You are why DCUM sucks so much. It's toxic. Shut it down.

The Virginia PTA is anything but a benign force for good. Shut it down.

I think you misunderstood me. When I said shut it down, I was referring to DCUM.
I agree. Shut down the VA PTSA. Create a TJ PTO. We don't need the NEA to take over everything related to schools.

What is the difference between PTA and PTO?

Incorrect. The incoming president’s term has just begun, while the president-elect’s term will begin at this time next year.

Nothing really. PTO is a term that some schools use in place of PTA. TJ currently has a PTSA, or Parent Teacher Student Association.

My understanding of the difference between PTA and PTO is that PTAs pay dues to the state PTA organization and PTO don't - they are independent of any state or national organization.

Correct. This is all just a bunch of partisans complaining the other side is political. Similarly, the VA PTA is complaining that the TJ PTSA is acting politically, but it too is political. Maybe the first logical step would be for the VA PTA to do the only honorable thing and disband. Fat chance.

“The mostly-white Virginia PTA is trying to hijack our all-minority TJ victory because we are an inconvenient minority for them. The woke warriors are so afraid of our mostly immigrant, mostly Asian parents because we defy their narrative of oppressed minorities in a racist America. We’re unapologetic, and that scares them so much they don’t even realize how they are now perpetrators of a systemic racism and tyranny they claim to oppose.”

It’s certainly not bringing out the best in people who pride themselves on racial sensitivity. Virginia’s education secretary, Atif Qarni, likened Asian-American kids taking test preparation to athletes taking illegal performance-enhancing drugs. A member of the Fairfax County school board called the majority Asian-American TJ culture “toxic” for African-American students. When principal Ann N. Bonitatibus, who is white, sent out a note in June 2020 to parents and students raising the “equity gap,” she asked them, in the name of fighting racism, to check their privilege.

Apparently no progressive thinks the real answer might be to do as Mr. Jackson suggests: Improve the pipeline by giving black and Latino families better grade schools and better alternatives to lift achievement. This, of course, would require a hard conversation about how so many of our public schools are failing black and Latino children. Over and over, the answer instead is to eliminate elite guilt and embarrassment over racial achievement gaps by eliminating the tests that expose them.

Today’s targeting of successful Asian-American kids lacks the crudity of a Jim Crow lunch counter or a whites-only drinking fountain. But it is no less ugly—and no less racially discriminatory—for being more genteel.

How sad that Scott Brabrand and this ludicrous School Board - full of hypocrites like Melanie Meren, Karen Corbett Sanders, and Elaine Tholen - have done so much in so little time to damage the reputation of FCPS (and bring national attention to its long-standing problems).

This makes me feel so much better about the petty dirty laundry our school's parents bring up on DCUM:

What a mess, and it obviously will drag out for years to come. Scott Brabrand and the School Board members should resign immediately for having created this sh*t show.

How utterly embarrassing and just appallingly ugly. This is a dang pta, of a damn public high school - full of smart kids. Get a grip, know your role, stop projecting, and work things out - like adults.

The TJ parent community has proven that they (as a group) are incapable of decent behavior. There are many bright exceptions, but the parents are a huge part of the current culture problem.

Just change TJ to an academy. More children should have access to the classes that are only taught at TJ.
