But Republicans are going to Republican. I can't vote for someone who is going to hurt VA with their district-gerrymandering, conservative judge-picking, Trump-supporting. When in doubt, he's pick a straight party line. Crossing the aisle is over for both sides.

Completely agree. I worked with him years ago and he was honestly lovely, very smart and capable. But no chance I will vote for him because we cannot go backwards in VA. We have made too much progress to turn back to debating bathroom bills and heartbeat bills. No thanks.

Well, the FCPS School Board composed entirely of Democrats totally ignores the basics but we have an endless series of schools teed up for renaming, including schools that aren't even named after Confederate generals, just multi-generational families that included Confederate soldiers. It's wasteful BS and if Youngkin can appoint VDOE leaders who start to focus on education again that would be progress.

so we're down to school naming issues as the wedge issue- good luck with that.

Contrived wedge issues are all Republicans have these days. It's a little sad to see people actually fall for them.

What is your actual concern?

You have some moral opposition to blending algebra and geometry concepts? You are offended by data science?

Your “outrage” sounds straight- up RWNJ.

I have a problem the way they are implementing it, putting 4 years worth into 3. It could work as an advanced track. When they say it is the regular track, it means the classes are watered down, and the advanced kids are missing out.

How would they be "missing out"?

Here was an example of an accelerated path that school systems could implement. Kid finishes Essential Concepts III in 9th grade. Then take pre-calc and two other advanced math courses. How is that kid "missing out"?

I just explained it. Those classes I II III are watered down, given that they are expecting all kids to take those classes in 8-10(or earlier).
They have acknowledged that prealgebra is in I, it doesn't just start at algebra, which is admittedly a fuzzy barrier, but they will going way to the prealgebra side. By the time we get to II-III algebra II will be missing or minimal. It is even more watered down given all the other material they are cramming in.

He definitely has my vote now. Was hoping someone other than McAuliffe would win the D primary but the sheeple did as instructed.

Please. Terry is great. He overhauled the VEDP and endorsed Moret. Moret got us Amazon and now the state is going to be extremely prosperous with lots of jobs. If you to give our jobs to someone else- vote gop.

But the majority of Virginia know this- Terry will be great for business. If you want to live in a red state- West Virginia is right next door. Enjoy the commute.

The converse of calling something a wedge issue for R’s is acknowledging that D’s fixate on these trivial issues in a transparent effort to suck up to certain constituencies and suggest they care a lot about equity while actually making other decisions that benefit their own circle.
Contrived wedge issues are all Republicans have these days. It's a little sad to see people actually fall for them.

What is Yongkin’s plan for education? If he wants NOVA votes he needs to have a plan for each issue and not just general statements.

Imagine how much support they’d get if they would openly and vigorously denounce Trump (and not just after they clinch the nomination).

From what we’ve seen with the likes of Liz Cheney and Mitt Romney, not very much support

I guess not. What is wrong with the GOP? It’s nuts.

The VA Democrats voted for the most centrist candidates across the board, rejecting the more “progressive” candidates in all three of the state-wide contests and a number of the local seats (like favoring Shin over Samirah). Maybe that bodes well for them this fall, or perhaps it portends a broader shift to the right that will favor newcomers like Youngkin. Guess we’ll see. Personally I find McAuliffe an insincere phony whom others tolerate simply because they want to hitch their wagon to some of the money he controls.
