Until my Elem kids can be vaccinated, I support them wearing a mask, particularly as schools are going to be much more crowded next year. I drove by an APS elementary this week midday and saw the kids eating outside. They were obviously unmasked and sitting in close clumps of 3-5 students. I imagine through the day they also gather closely - it is natural and I don’t think we should train them out of it. Get them vaccinated; I’m hopeful my kids will be vaccinated by fall next year - if they get the vac they can drop the mask, if not they can double mask. Regardless, I hate that in Arlington all these non-MD parents are jnsisting they give better medical advise than doctors. Or the dermatologist and anesthesiologist in AEM who have become infectious disease experts. Talk about entitlement.

Why do you think schools are going to be more overcrowded next year? 2000 kids are leaving and some are doing virtual.

Hate to tell you but most kids are not going to double mask. I have no problem with requiring it until kids are vaccinated but people are not going to double masking their kids.

Double masking does not always work or make sense. Half the kids I see walking to school have those flimsy cotton masks that are falling below their nose. Their parents cannot be that clueless, they must not care or be anti-maskers. Our kids wear masks with built in filters or the KN94, which are not to be used for double masking.

Yeah! Gold medal for you! You win the Covid race!!!

But seriously what goes through your mind? Are you proud? Smug? Self- righteous? Over a face mask???

Wow trigger alert. I was simply adding why a double masking requirement wouldn’t work.

For PPs above, “DP” means different poster in that case. It’s etiquette to show you arentvv bc a previous poster in the conversation.

Is it? Or does it consistently tell you things you don’t want to know.

Sure, but that doesn’t make any sense in the context of that comment.
”I don't even know if DP realizes that she's doing her best to ruin everything SR might have achieved if they had just stuck to the science, and not to the drama.”

Why would PP assume that anonymous DCUM posters have anything to do with SR or, more dramatically, “ruining everything SR might have achieved”?

I think DP means dear poster? I could be wrong.

But I do know that BE is lawyer dad, married to SR’s lawyer lady. Both prolific and annoying AEM posters.

SR just does bad things, and then gaslights the public, because supposedly APE does similar bad things.

Are you still hung up on BE sharing that tweet? LOL.

Is he proud of it then? SR have shown their colors too. Just as bad as the worst APE supporters.

You're just mad because he exposed APE's plans to recall School Board members and the Miranda supporters' FOIA of Mary Kadera's emails going back years.

Oh yeah. Forgot about that.

That wouldn’t be awkward at all if she won - hi, my people tried to recall you all.

Right except she has said repeatedly that there is no ape recall or lawsuit and she supports neither effort. But keep spreading you misleading info.

Sorry. We all saw the screenshot of EHN saying that APE is planning to recall SB members. Miranda is a LEADER of APE. She tried to distance herself from the recall effort after it became public, but only because it looks terrible. But it's obvious APE/Miranda had plans to do this.

The person who FOIA'ed all of Mary's emails is the husband of an APE steering committee member. Still wonder what they were planning to do with that.

Miranda IS APE. She's a steering committee member of APE. Her open schools advocacy through APE is her only qualification. Her whole platform is APE. Her donors are APE. Her supporters and volunteers are APE. Even her newsletters read like an APE newsletter.

And her lawn signs are next to the APE “open 5 days” signs...

It's painfully obvious to most of us that kids should be in school 5/days per week right now. APS should have planned for that eventuality, but they did not. So here we are with another asynchronous Monday (which means my 6 year old is watching TV all day) followed by 2 days "learning" on an ipad which includes such age appropriate segments like a 20 minutes on Lexia followed by a 15 minute screen break. This is all we are going to get for the rest of the year, but it didn't have to be this way. You can mock APE and Miranda all you want, but she has a real chance because APS's overcautious approach is THE issue of the year and there is a lot of resentment among parents that aren't the type to yell at a board meeting or get into pissing matches on Facebook.

You truly sound unwell. I think you should step away from the internet for a few days. I'm not someone who cares about SR or APE.

+1. Not to mention the shortened school day and overuse of iPads in the classroom. APS seemed to be actively looking for ways to reduce effective instruction.

+1 for Miranda. Return to School is THE issue. And Miranda is on the correct side. And don't tell me it's not going to be an issue next year, because I don't believe it. We need a school district committed to being open from now on.

I agree that we should be in school 5 days a week. That problem has been solved for next year. We’re doing it. I haven’t seen anything of substance from Miranda on an other issue. I disagreed with her positions on boundaries a few years ago and am not seeing anything else.

How has APS not committed to 5 days a week for next year? They've required parents to make a binding decision. They've been clear that there will not be distancing possible but they plan to implement other safety measures that are currently in place (and generally there isn't a ton of distancing happening now....the desks are separated but elementary kids are not in desks all day long). They've named an administrator for the separate virtual program. They've communicated that they plan to help administer vaccines for 12-15 year olds once it's approved later this week and have already held clinics to reach 16+ students.

What more commitment do you want that we will have 5 days in the fall? Do you want them to promise to eradicate COVID?

This will not be an issue in the fall, and Miranda's platform will be moot. What else is she advocating for?
