Who should we elect Mayor of DC next?

He will definitely defund the police.

It pains me to say it because I respect him, but never, please. Racine is flat out wrong about how to stop crime and I reject that my family should be exposed to danger to facilitate his experimentation.

Even if Racine is correct, his problem is that crime is trending up. Even if his theory works and DC’s crime rate increases slower than other major metros, he will still be held accountable to the increase. The data is trending against him, so if he doesn’t run now he will never have a better opportunity.

The second problem for Racine is that his policies are targeting the wrong constituencies. Even if he is winning over some folks with his approach throuhh giving kids opportunities for a second chance, these are low propensity or non-voters. Meanwhile, white folks who are now half the population and the majority of the adult population are high propensity voters and he’s got a problem with both major groups.

He’s a “copL so he’ll never win over the left wingers and he’s got the high income professional liberals worried about crime.

So, of Karl Racine and Robert White, who do we prefer. Better to unite behind one opponent of Mayor Bowser than split the support.

Kenyan McDuffie will probably run. Robert White doesn't believe in anything and I don't think Karl Racine will run.

McDuffie is going to have trouble winning next year in his own ward, much less citywide. He has a pretty serious challenger already, which is a sign that he's viewed as vulnerable:

I think Charles Allen's inflated ego will tell him to run, and he'll fall on his face like Lazere has done repeatedly. Racine has higher goals than being DC's mayor.

Oh please. Kenyan will be just fine.

Or not. He's not running for reelection.

Allen is going to run for his COuncil seat, most likely. I don't see him as a city wide figure at this juncture, and probably never.

I could see Henderson as a viable city wide candidate in the future, but not yet, too soon.

That leave someone like Robert White as the most viable person. I don't know if he would have interest or not, or if he could mount enough of a campaign against Bowser.

Ed Lazere's multiple failed attempts to win a citywide election as an ultra-liberal white male almost certainly will scare Allen off from running for mayor -- the two are basically the same people -- but I bet Allen still is thinking hard about it. Then again, with the right candidate Allen will be vulnerable in his own ward.

Lazere could now run for McDuffie's seat, but there already are multiple candidates whose campaigns are up and running. He'd be playing catch-up the whole time.

Robert White is running. couple of people involved on his campaign were talking about it within earshot of us on Saturday night were he was welcoing folks to movie at walter reed. He will get the backing of WTU and they are already powerful enough.

Parents hate the WTU these days. Since the shenanigans they played during COVID. Their opinion counts for quite a bit less than it once did.

Why not Trayon White Sr. for mayor?

I assume this is a joke.

Robert White looks like he's gonna give it a shot, per Tom Sherwood.

I cannot think of one distinct piece of legislation he has ardently backed (which I guess could be a good thing).

Sherwood adds that White running would mean Racine would *not* run but rather throw his hat behind White:

Robert White is pretty sharp and seems principled/ethical. That could be really good.

I mean, it was only a matter of time.
