Not a tragedy, but I feel it would have changed a lot.

Do you not understand that social strata are a thing, in every culture? They are measured and studied scientifically. They are not a figment if some snob’s image nation.

(And the OP did not say his trajectory nosedived. Sounds like it actually went up. )
