Everyone bringing their own breakfasts and lunches is just stupid. Send 2 people to buy a lot of different stuff and divide the cost by three. If each family is responsible for one dinner for all they buy the stuff for that dinner. |
Say "I told your mom I was only bringing enough for Ross and Monica - go ask your mom what she brought for you." |
I don't understand why OP doesn't just send out a shopping list to the group and say what she's bringing and ask who can bring the rest. |
Because she just wants to complain instead of create a solution. |
The whole thing over arguing over $50 or whatever the cost is at stake here is just so grim to me. Call me spoiled but just eat the damn cost and consider it the price of vacation. If you sense these people are taking advantage of you, stop vacationing with them. But the griping over $50 or whatever extra you're spending on food? Just sad. |
I really appreciate posts like this because they make me feel slightly better about the State of Everything. We can't really be headed toward the collapse of our democracy if we've got people like OP worried Johnny's going to eat her Apple Jacks while they are all sharing a house together.
Thank you, OP. |
You need to share all the meals, no way around it I am afraid (they probably don’t feed their teenagers enough). |
Say you’ll cover breakfast for three days if the other families each take some days as well. Otherwise, just tell the kids sorry but the grownups arranged the food differently and they should check with their parents.
What did you bring that was so coveted by the other kids? |
But OP, you wouldn’t have to bring groceries for 10 people, you just need to bring more than just food for your family of 3. Like a PP said, an extra carton of eggs and a couple extra packages of bacon and loaves of bread should do it. Is it really that hard? |
Food is usually communal for farm animals. |
And manners were not. Which is the point |
If other kids ask, just tell them that every family is having breakfast on their own. But, you have to bring some extras. You can't do that for the entire time. Also, I imagine your kids will be offered food from others as well. |
Ugh. This is why you need to be careful when traveling with other families. Yes, I’m eating bacon and eggs at least a few times when I’m on vacation. I’m also eating and drinking lots of other fun stuff when I’m on vacation. Life is too short to eat salad and drink water on vacation. |
I know parents like you. I’ve seen your kids double fist chips and cookies at parties because they aren’t allowed to eat them at home. I listened to moms like you wonder why their daughters have eating disorders. Eating some fun food while on vacation doesn’t promote obesity. Forbidding treats and making a big deal about sugar and calories absolutely promotes eating disorders and body image issues. |
As long as we're playing this game, I know parents like you. Kids wolfing down Ho-hos and donuts and potato chips without a care in the world. Never really eating vegetables. Growing up into fat teens and adults who cry that they have a weight problem and have no clue what to do about it. You letting your kids eat utter garbage is absolutely setting them up for a decreased quality of life and a myriad of health issues. But enjoy your Oreos as you waddle around the campsite |
