she likes to ride a high horse and talk about her high performing children.

I can't stand her. She does this EVERY meeting. She does not support teachers and staff at all. And she's very anti-spending, anti-tech, and voted against several things that would have made this implementation easier. So her outrage is ridiculous.

What does this mean? What did she say?

She always goes for him. I get the sense she doesn't like him. March 27th when FCPS leadership talked about laptop distribution and how FCPSon is meant to allow for a 1:1 pivot, she voted against it. Budget meeting, she voted against paying hourly staff, which isn't just subs etc. and then got mad when people called her out.

Luftglas (IT) : It wasn't MY fault! BB didn't tell me the last 7 updates were important to this. If we did the updates, it would have caused other things to break. If they had told us we needed to do it now, we would have done it.

BB guy (Tomlinson): We should have told FCPS that these updates were needed. Now we'll get it done and hopefully it works for next week.

March 27th meeting:

Being 1:1 isn't necessary. It's a waste of money.

For a county that has so many well-educated people, overall a good tax base, and the expertise of a large school system..... FCPS has not done very well.

I understand that this was very abrupt to switch education from in-person to on-line. I give them a break for the rest of this year (to some degree).

But, this whole school board meeting and the big FAIL gives me no confidence at all that FCPS is going to handle next school year well.

I watch Cuomo's press conf. everyday. He gives the impression of being seriously on the task and giving us the facts. I would feel comfortable following him into battle. Watching the FCPS administrators, I do not have confidence and would not want to follow them into battle. It would be like the Keystone Cops.... bumbling into each other and getting captured by the enemy. a mess.

He's an absolute idiot.

IT person here. From waht I saw, the issue is not on BB's side. THey have plenty of capacity. It's the login side (used for more than just BB, also other services). That part uses FCPS servers and they couldn't handle the load.

189,000 students + 16,000 teachers. My husband does IT for the government and called it when he saw it!

Yet MCPS has about the same number of students, and is in their 3rd week of online instruction with few issues. They use Google for login instead of relying on MCPS servers.

If you have followed our schoolboard for the past couple of years, you would see that as they have gotten more and more dominated by one side, their focus has been very far from the basics of educating the students.

Their emphasis has been on Ryan McEleven inspired pet projects that have zero to do with education.

Add that to a bloated Gatehouse full of overpaid "leaders" and now we have what we have.

I would bet most Fairfax residents have never set foot into fcps main office building. If they did, they would be stunned by how top heavy this district is.

The school board has been very poor stewards of our resources and students for many years, and have gotten a pass due to so many quality teachers.

Brabrand was not hired for operational competence.

He was hired because he was rah-rah about FCPS and Board members like KCS and KKG knew he'd sing and dance about "equity" while they pushed their pet projects forward.

Please don't talk about Cuomo.... so many people dying under his watch right now!

The problem is that none of these people are school-based. They are politicians. The people who have taught did so many years ago. Equity is 100% important, but true equity looks different in application. These people don't know what they are talking about.

He is not a miracle worker! He's not responsible for creating a cure.... he's doing the best that is humanly possible. But that is not the point of this thread. The point is that there is an example of good leadership and FCPS is not really showing it.
