Any thoughts on these numbers for a rising 1st grader? Obviously drew a pretty good master number, but I don't know that these WLs will move at all.
1 Latin American Montessori Bilingual (LAMB) PCS - Kingsbury Waitlisted - #16 2 DC Bilingual PCS Waitlisted - #14 3 Oyster-Adams Bilingual School (Oyster) - English Dominant Waitlisted - #13 4 E.W. Stokes - Brookland (Spanish Language Program) Waitlisted - #11 |
We had Burroughs. Under Langdon. |
This is right— 47 offers were made. But WL numbers often increase, too, for sibling who get in / enroll in other grades and then pull a sibling higher on the list. So it’s fluid. A few years ago I started at #3 on the WL for a different school and never got an offer despite 6 offers being made. |
I am at LAMB and love it (oldest kid in 2nd, youngest in pk3). If you start a new thread I will answer questions. |
LAMB is a maybe. There are only 3 classes at SD next year so who knows. |
Stokes moved for 1st last year. We started at #6 and got an offer in July. |
3 classes of each multi-age group? Or just one cohort of PK3, one of PK4, and one of K all together in one class? |
I believe there are 3 mixed age classes, with roughly even numbers of PK3/PK4/K in each class. |
Move inbounds for Oyster-Adams; problem solved. |
Also happy to weigh in on specifics on a separate threat - we love it. I think it will be really interesting to see how the list moves this year. Of course the WL is shorter than past years (in the past it didn't "use" a spot), but my guess is that for the same reason the WL will see a LOT less movement. In the past it was common to see movement into the 80s and 90s. But that was across both campuses (as opposed to now when each campus has its own list) and that was when people had separate MSDC lists to consider. I know at least two families at LAMB that had years where they did really well on both the LAMB lottery and the MSDC lottery. Obviously (because I know them as LAMB families) they choose LAMB, but there were also other families that did well on both lotteries in the past that didn't choose LAMB. So for people with WL numbers in the 50s and 60s, I don't think your likelihood is good. But maybe with the move, I'll be wrong. Personally, I'm much more interested in whether LAMB will back-fill after K. They've always said they don't back-fill after K, but several people are posting here with WL numbers for grades above K. Maybe it will depend on re-enrollment numbers. It will be interesting. |
| I am in shock. Our third grader got into SWS and pulled in the younger siblings. We are at a Hill school we like, it is a hard choice. DH has already said he wants to decline (swing space too much of a pain). I am glad we have until May to make a decision. |
We got into Lee Montessori East end for prek3! We toured and loved it! I’ve also met a few moms whose kids where there this past year and love it! |
We gave up a year ago. If I ever have slight regrets about moving, and that is rare, a thread like this makes me very happy about the decision we made. |
PP with PreK3 number in the low 50’s here. I suspect you are right about WL movement this year! I also wondered whether Kingsbury construction might be delayed due to covid; if so, that could affect movement (although I’m not sure of the exact effect). |
Thanks! That's helpful. |
