This is too sad for words.

Is it possible that the 3 additional people who haven’t been named are his wife and/or additional children, or has that been ruled out?

Via TMZ: they flew into a mountain during dense fog

-----

Update 4:30 PM PT -- L.A. weather was extremely foggy Sunday morning, and law enforcement sources tell us even LAPD air support was grounded because of it. Flight tracker data shows Kobe's chopper appeared to first encounter weather issues as it was above the L.A. Zoo. It circled that area at least 6 times at a very low altitude -- around 875 feet -- perhaps waiting for the fog to clear.

We know the pilot contacted the control tower at Burbank Airport around 9:30 AM PT, and the tower was aware the pilot had been circling for about 15 minutes. The pilot eventually headed north along the 118 freeway before turning to the west, and started following above the 101 freeway around Woodland Hills, CA.

At around 9:40 AM they encounter more weather -- as in seriously heavy fog -- and the chopper turned south. This was critical, because they turned toward a mountainous area. The pilot suddenly and rapidly climbed from about 1200 feet up to 2000 feet.

However, moments later -- around 9:45 AM -- they flew into a mountain at 1700 feet. Flight tracker data shows they were flying at about 161 knots.

They were on their way to a basketball game for the girls. The helicopter flight time from Irvine to Thousand Oaks is 25 minutes.

Driving that distance is an 1 hr 45 mins in normal traffic.

Did the flight stop anywhere en route? Maybe pick up the OC family in Orange County, and then pick up Kobe in Calabasas?

This was my fear. I live near Calabasas and it was VERY foggy.

Kobe Bryant
Gianna Bryant (his 13-year-old daughter)
John Altobelli (Gianna's coach)
Keri Altobelli (John's wife)
Alyssa Altobelli (Coach's daughter and Gianna's teammate)
The Pilot

There's 3 more unlisted.

Local paper reported one of those three was another coach Christina Mauser, she was a school coach and also assistant coach to Kobe in the youth program.

I also read a witness said he saw the helicopter flying low to the ground and the engine was sputtering. He lost track of it thru the fog then he heard the boom.

Sad for the families of all of the people who died in the crash.

It was his own private helicopter he owned. He commuted around La via helicopter (but how did he land)? I saw a clip on one of the tonight shoes.

It happens in three’s. Who’s next?

It's so sad--also thinking of the family that lost both parents and a sister.

There was a fire, so they may be pretty sure who else was on board, but need to do DNA or dental analysis to be sure.

They know the rest of the family wasn’t onboard - stop spreading misinformation.
