This looks like damage control to me! but whatever let move on. SES might get an interim because i believe the pool is meager at this time of the year and almost everyone is on vacation. |
Adjacent to. Not in. They'll have recess. There will be two feet less along the perimeter of the playground. Kids will be fine. |
Interim is far preferable to a rushed choice out of a small pool. |
June 12, 2019 Dear Shepherd Elementary School Community, As many of you may be aware, the candidate selected to lead Shepherd Elementary School for next school year recently rescinded his acceptance of the position. We share your surprise and disappointment that Dr. Barber changed his decision, and we are committed to quickly securing a new principal who will help usher Shepherd into its next phase of excellence. As shared at the community information session held on May 9, DC Public Schools values community input on principal candidates. Even though we are quickly approaching the end of the school calendar year—with principals beginning service at their new schools on Monday, June 24—we believe that the best way to honor this priority is to convene the Shepherd community panel again to consider additional candidates. Our hope is that, upon receiving community input on these candidates, we can move quickly to naming a new principal for Shepherd who is fully committed to the school’s success. We apologize for the extension of this process, it is out of interest of ensuring the community’s contribution to the selection of Shepherd’s next principal. Please be assured that we have continued to review and consider candidates to ensure that the strongest and most committed principal is selected to lead Shepherd into School Year 2019-2020. Thank you for your patience as we continue to coordinate the search and selection of a new school leader. Sincerely, Carolyne Albert-Garvey Interim Instructional Superintendent (outgoing) Kim Jackson Instructional Superintendent (incoming) |
Not sure why are so confident (maybe you work for DPR?)...during the last renovation recess was definitely impacted |
I don't work for them. I was there for the meeting. I thought my fellow parents were totally overreacting and bullying the guy trying to give a presentation before he could even explain a plan. |
I was at the meeting and I am not a SES parents. People were raising valid concerns but maybe to the wrong person. |
| Nothing gets a dcps more hot & bothered than outdoor play space. You all who live in Cracker Jack box houses & have yards that 2 feet big flip your kid about recess. Here is an idea...get a backyard or go to a damned park |
I think it is more about recess. I feel like all my kid does all year is assessments and the class has recess taken away for the bad behavior of a few. I don’t care if they are out running in an alley, they need outdoor running around time, which I bet would also cut down on some of the bad behavior! |
Shepherd Park is all SFHs with yards, but kids still need adequate recess space during the school day. |
It’s against DCPS policy to take recess away. I would talk to the principal and let him or her know your child will not be missing anymore recess. Page 9. Each k-8 school must provide at least 1 20 minute session. https://dcps.dc.gov/sites/default/files/dc/sites/dcps/publication/attachments/DCPS%20Local%20Wellness%20Policy%202017.pdf |
