I actually wondered if this is why I can't poop in public. I have a lot of digestive issues. No stall doors in middle school or hs due to drug use and sex.
i developed severe constipation in high schools and would poop once a week. I have serious issues still especially with public bathrooms to this day but now I have Ibs type issues which get much worse with stress and anxiety . Literally my life revolves around this issue . They ruined my life

So private room bathrooms would have been a godsend for you. I know that they would for many of my students with disabilities.

This is going to be like ramps and elevators and closed captioning. Something originally driven by the needs of one group that turns out to have advantages for many people. Universal design for the win!

Absolutely.

Probably most people would prefer to use toilets enclosed by floor-to-ceiling walls, rather than stall walls that don't reach the floor or ceiling - no?

Because it was deleted by the PC patrol on this site, I am going to repeat how stupid this all is.

Two years ago, I had a discussion with our Principal about whether our school could ever be repurposed as a primary school. She said emphatically NO WAY this would EVER happen because of the astronomical cost involved in switching the toilets and sinks to smaller ones. Hundreds of thousands of dollars for just one school.

Obviously, This did not include the cost of walls, locking doors and extra plumbing (basically gutting every restroom in every school) included in these fantasy rooms of the PPs. There is no way tMCPS can afford the many millions it would take to do this to every school.

You are looking at a communal room with stalls, folks. Maybe the stalls reach the floor but metal stalls with gaps, no doubt. They will not be soundproof and will not be private. The Super all but says this.

So those of you who act like these are going to be like Starbucks, you are living in a fantasyland of unlimited cash and riches. Our schools are overcrowded, our curriculum is failing, he a lmk ready right budget was slashed, not enough staff and you think the best use of declining resources is bathrooms for a couple kids per school?

Absurd. The one or two trans kids per school (many schools have none) should use the bathroom of their chosen gender, let girls have their safety and privacy (you know THEIR rights!), save MCPS ten million dollars that could be used for actual education and stop this insanity.

The sane thing could be said about the costs associated with ADA compliance, but you know it's the right thing to do.

BS. How us this fair to young menstruating girls already embarrassed of their changing bodies? How is exposing them to boys the right thing to do? There are thousands more girls than trans kids but you don't care about trampling on the girl's rights! Women, wake up!!!!

+ a million.

At the core of it, this is just another idea to bully girls into political submission.

Absolutely!!!! It is outrageous!!! I don't care if the trans kid wants to use the girls bathroom because that is their identity. Go for it! I respect their individual rights and support their decision. Why can't the trans community be equally support my daughter's rights to menstruate and change her pad in peace, in a safe comfortable environment? She doesn't get to choose if she bleeds or not or when she bleeds. Her choice is limited.

How would this expose girls to boys? Because they'd be using the same sink?

The girls would dispose of their sanitary supplies IN THE STALL, even if they were using the unisex bathroom. Also, if they want, they are free to use the many single sex bathrooms that will still be at the school.

FFS, this is not a conspiracy. It is a small gesture to kids who are either transgender or otherwise gender-nonconforming, which includes many young women.

It could be wheelchair accessible, non-gendered and stocked with hygiene products. It could have shelves and hooks so that students can even change clothes in the event that they need to. Anybody with special restroom needs could use it, but because it would be in the health room, there would be a staff member nearby, so it would be less likely to be abused.

People having to go to the health room to use a special bathroom is basically the opposite of the goal of this proposal.

Think of it as the restroom equivalent of the designated allergy table in the cafeteria.

i love nothing more after taking a nasty dump than seeing someone of the opposite sex in the same bathroom. No way would I be self conscious

when the boy goes into the stall and photographs the sanitary napkin? That’ll be fun

One question remains: are the trans kids forced to use their "single" bathrooms?

If not, would it cause problems if they enter the boy's or girl's room instead?

I think what caused this possible proposal of change, is the fear that transkids parent could sue.
So now, if wold the other parents sue as well if they feel that their kids do not have a well protected bathroom to go to?

.....then he can face the consequences of his action. You think a boy is going to go into the stall, fish out a used sanitary napkin, and post a picture of it along with the name of the girl who was last in that stall?

How would he even know she was the one who changed her pad?

You are literally inventing a problem at this point.

Even better when you come out and there's five teen boys just hanging around and make a funny remark when you come out which obviously follows you around the whole school for weeks.

On what base could other parents sue the school?

Are you really that stupid? Maybe you are a man so I'll break it down for you
I come from a long line of heavy bleeders. We go through multiple pads tampons in just one day. Sometimes we can just sit on a toilet while clots and blood gushes out. We are genetically built this way. Many times we bleed through our clothes and need a safe private sink to pull down our pants and try to clean up the blood so it is not so obvious when we walk out of the bathroom.

Where are my daighters rights as a new woman to be able to learn to care for herself? Where are my daughter's rights to do the same at her school in a safe environment? How is she going to do this surrounded by boys? She won't. She will be anxious scared and mortified. But to all of you, the girls rights don't matter. We have to spend millions and pander to a handful of trans kids who are welcome to use our bathroom any time they need it.

Well it the school allows boys into girl's bathrooms, would that sound right to you?

Now, if they allow transkids to go into any bathrooms they want, is that fair? Or can they force the transkids to only go to the unisex bathrooms? If they do that, they may face lawsuits from the parents of those kids too.

Do you do this at sinks in public bathrooms? As a lifelong girl/woman and user of public bathrooms, I have never, not once, never ever, seen anybody do that. I'm not saying that nobody does it. But I have never seen it.

+1.

I hope this is a wake-up call to women and to parents of girls.

So, these are things that kids CAN ALREADY DO.
