Anyone else still drinking?

I am in my second trimester. When I drank it was 7oz of wine MAX. Sometimes just 3 oz. One time it was a beer. DH recently started antidepressants. He knows he needs to be very careful about drinking now that he's taking them. Thanks for the concern though. I have other relaxation strategies, drinking was one of the not so healthy ones.

7 ounces of wine is a LOT. Way too much.

So is barbecued food and bacon, but nobody engages in moral panic about that.

Neither of which I eat.

well fruits and veggies can give you all kinds of food-borne diseases.

so I guess you'll just have to have water and cream of wheat your whole pregnancy.

Please care for your children....
They need responsible parents who love them.

But everyone says they’re only “light drinking.” I don’t buy it. At all. “1-2 glasses a week.”

Wrap your feeble mind around this: Pre 70s, most moms smoked and drank throughout their pregnancies. As in martinis and gin and tonics. And yet, there wasn't a huge drop in kids with special needs. In fact, there's a small rise in the overall rate because of ASD.

Correlation does not equal causation. There are many other differences between the 70s and today... medicines (before and during pregnancy), birth control pills, pollution, food quality in general, etc... Also the diagnosis of ASD is much better known today than it was and parents are more aware.

And where were all the FAS kids when I was growing up? Not a one in my parents hard drinking crowd of 5 to 8 kids each.

The idea that today's moms have that drinking is this immediate birth defect sentence has never been proven.

Please ignore these fools OP. As usual, ignorance abounds. Lots of people out there will judge you so they can feel superior while turning a blind eye to the science that says that while alcohol can certainly be bad for the fetus, just like caffiene, sugar and second hand smoke, our bodies are capable of processing those and many other toxins and protecting our babies as long as we are careful. Most Europeans had mothers who drank when they were pregnant with them and European countries have much better health outcomes than we do.

I wish you a continued healthy pregnancy.

And how do you know that? I mean did you do medical examinations on those kids? It’s just like ADHD- not a single kid “had” it when I was growing up and now it’s much more diagnosed given what we know now. Same with FAS.

Educate yourself and read the science.

If you feel guilty, then why don't you stop?

I get drinking once in a while and feeling okay about it. But feeling guilty about it and not doing anything to stop is kinda crazy or alcoholic...

Because it’s much easier to just characterize it as “light drinking” and therefore it’s not that bad.
