Anyone know why a number of restaurants have shut down in McLean recently - Joe's Burgers, Evo Bistro, even Sweetgreen? These were all fairly popular spots as far as I know and nothing seems to be taking their spots.
All three cited to the cost of doing business in McLean. The owners said the rent was too high.
SO typical for this area! Fairfax County keeps raising taxes and rents to pay for other programs, and is running people out of town.
The county does not set rents, those are negotiated between private owners of buildings and the businesses that rent from them. It is true that Fairfax has higher property taxes than Arlington or Alexandria, but both Arlington and Alexandria have meals taxes, and Fairfax does not (one was proposed, but defeated), and you would expect that to matter more to restaurants.
