Code for: Black candidates

+1

PG candidates are tainted, not because of race but because of ethics. The rest of the state sees PG as a corrupt, pay to play circus, a throwback to an earlier era-- which is quite an indictment given Maryland's past history with Agnew, Mandel, etc.

+ 100.

I don't remember hearing that about our most recent governor from Prince George's County, Parris Glendening.

Well, perhaps he did a good job at dissociating himself from the corrupt PG machine?

I don't remember "the corrupt PG machine" being an issue in either election. Do you?

Alternative explanation: the second-to-top PP is correct, and "candidate from Baltimore or PG County" means "a black candidate".

+1. Anyone has says every politician in a county is corrupt is a fool (likely a racist one.)

Correct me if I am wrong, but I don't recall PG county officials being indicted for accepting bribes when Glendening was around. I also don't recall council members unabashedly flouting traffic and safety laws with little consequence.

But in any event, I will tell everyone why a PG county politician cannot win the Governorship: it's because they have nothing to offer any other part of the state. There is no record of solutions for tackling crime or poverty. No record of supporting rural areas, aside from letting developers convert them to sub-developments. No record of promoting jobs or economic development. And no record of supporting and improving educational outcomes in public schools. On every key issue that is important to voters across this state, PG county not only fails but doesn't even have solutions that appear to be working and just need more time. I don't care if the politician is black or white, failure doesn't deserve to be rewarded with promotion.

Still waiting for the list,of Hogan"s accomplishments as governor. Still crickets.

-Democrat who will definitely consider voting for Hogan, as long as he continues to stay distant from Donald Trump

I voted for Hogan and won't next time. My issue with him was his veto to increase the amount of the state's electricity that would have to come from renewable energy (the legislature eventually overrode the veto).
For me, that put him straight on to the side of Trump and the Republican Party.

Hogans done nothing good and hasn't distanced himself sufficiently from Trump.

Why would a county politician from Allegany, Anne Arundel, Baltimore, Calvert, Caroline, Carroll, Cecil, Charles, Dorchester, Frederick, Garrett, Harford, Howard, Kent, Montgomery, Queen Anne's, Saint Mary's, Somerset, Talbot, Washington, Wicomico, or Worcester Counties have any more to offer any other part of the state than a county politician from Prince George's?

I read that Jack Johnson finally is out of prison. Maybe he and his cash-stuffing ex-councilmember wife can now make their comeback, Marion Barry-style!

I know one thing, I voted for Hogan before, but will not vote for another Republican politician ever again; the GOP has gone entirely nuts.

The problem with Baker is that he proposed a 15 percent tax increase. That's the biggest issue. I think MD residents are already fed up with the taxes. They see PG County as a place that has high taxes but poor services. They keep using the schools as an excuse to raise taxes, to put in casinos, and yet the schools never get better and it increasingly looks like the money is not being managed well.

19:53 here. I think a lot of Dems voted for Hogan because of taxes. They wanted to send a message.

I don't think they are happy with Hogan. If the Dems put forward a candidate who won't raise taxes (and makes that clear), then the Dems could win. It will be interesting to see what happens.

Especially if Hughes runs against former Michelle Obama aide, Krishanti Vignarajah, who was on Kojo show today

She went immediately to identity politics of her race, gender and immigration to US. She tried to run anti Trump, but blessed Tom Sherwood pointed out Trump is not governor of Maryland. She claimed to read a commission report that will not be published until December and was otherwise speaking in generalizations.
