10k according to the Mayor. So about 1 in 9 students in the system. Probably all in Wards 7 & 8. |
Those schools were doing fine recruiting before - i don't think they needed this. |
Again: people in-bounds for Watkins in the stanton park neighborhood would qualify. |
That number seems awfully high. There are only 41,000 charter students in total; 21,634 are in grades Pk3-5th city wide. |
Yes. Many people are having a hard time understanding the second part of the preference (your IB must be >0.5 miles away). LAMB is across the street from Brightwood, so (most, if not all) those surrounding apartments PP is referring to is NOT >0.5 mile from their IB. |
There may be that # with kids >0.5 from their IB (even that is questionable), but certainly not that many >0.5 and <0.5 from a charter. I don't believe any of those numbers. |
|
What on earth does that even mean? Use your words, girl! |
And then they would have to be in the lottery, right? So you would subtract anyone that was re-enrolling at their elementary school. |
There is concern on the charter side for growing too large. When they have >50% of DC students, they may have held to higher levels of accountability. Some of the more financially corrupt charters will be exposed for what they are...and all the PG kids in Ward 8 charters might be rooted out. |
Yes, but are there any charters closer? SWS and CHML are citywide DCPS schools. I'm also not entirely sure that the walkability preference would apply if the distance measured is to Peabody, especially if the Cluster maintains the bus. |
|
No -there are no charters around SWS, but it is very frustrating that there is no walkabiliy preference for people across the street.
And CHML is close to Two Rivers, but the people within .5 of it are out of luck, too. Maybe Two Rivers would be up for the proximity preference in Old City. |
The entire point of the earlier comment is that if they're going to give a proximity preference for charters they should give them to city wide dcps schools too. There is no difference between a charter that is supposed to be open to the entire city and a dcps that is supposed to be open to the entire city. The bus is irrelevant and they're trying to take that away anyway. |
As if schools like YY and Basis aren't hard enough to get into already. This will benefit the families in gentrifying neighborhoods East of the Park and West of the Anacostia. It won't help poorer students at all. |
I would love to live in a condo in Penn Quarter. . . |
