I agree with the majority here. You need to look at your control issues and stop sucking the joy out of his life. You only get these years once. Is it really worth it if he overspent by $5, $8, to make him feel like he made a bad mistake and shouldn't exist?
Seriously, think about it. He bought himself food to eat. Maybe not what you would have chosen for him, but he didn't do anything irresponsible. Signed, child of cheap parents who to this day is not close to them. |
| I have a 7 year old who I just sent off to a camp field trip today with $22. We went over what the money was for and how he should spend it. Ideally, he'll come back with a little less than $10. (He doesn't need to buy lunch). But if he comes back with $0... such is life. We'll talk about what he spent it on and maybe better choices (if he made bad ones), but we'll spend much more time talking about his field trip and what he saw and who he played with, etc., etc. I gave him the money knowing he may spend it all. I just can't imagine being mad at him because he spent money that I gave him to spend! |
Pretty sure that means 34 year old male. Jesus. |

My DS is an older teen. While on a week-long school trip Said his steak cost $31 dollars? I eat very small portions so alwYs amazes me he eats like a grown man. We have a nice life so don't try and limit him typically when we eat out. However, I do remember going g out for pizza was a big deal for my family.
I worry/know he has no sense ( or very little) of cost. Need to work on before he leaves for college. |
