Tell me about someplace you visited in the US that was surprisingly fun.

Great dining, freedom trail, quaint streets, Beacon Hill, the commons and Duck Tours, walkable city, the Charles river, best symphony hall in the US Next to Carnegie Hall in New York, probably fourth best in the world, Boston pops on the Fourth of July, Irish Taverns, beer, and the Sox.

Boston is not an unexpected place to vacation.

Are you the person from the other short trip to StL (Webster Groves) thread? Glad to hear you are enjoying yourselves!

I actually was surprised by Boston. It's honestly a place I had zero desire to visit, but we went up recently to visit a friend and had so much fun.

This is a funny thread. It could be called "terrible flyover places I'm trying to sell you on"...

And, I'm from one of those places. You'd never go if you weren't from thre.

We get tandem bikes and ride all over the island, get ice cream, crash on beaches. My favorite was a family nap under a tree and we carved out names into the tree. One day, we will own a piece of that island.

My parents went to Pitt. I !might visit with my Dad this summer. He can show us around. I want to stop at Ohiopyle. I loved St. Louis. We stopped there as a kid but I did not want to go. I loved it there. Also, Ouachita, Arkansas. Rural but solo relaxing and intriguing.

Block Island x1000000000!

The way New England beaches used to be . . .

Don't know if anyone's mentioned Louisville, KY, but the Ali Center is really cool, and there is an INCREDIBLE skatepark there.

The Wisconsin Dells for spring break. Super easy and laid back and the kids loved the water parks.

Also, for whoever said they liked Mellow Mushroom pizza, they just opened a franchise in Rockville Town Square!

I was going to say Columbus. Friends moved there & I was really surprised it was so nice. The German Village is great for walking around, and great food. We also did a really beautiful botanical garden. There is some science center which is supposed to be stellar but we didn't have time. They have a national hockey team & soccer team - our friends go to the hockey games. And then there's everything connected with Ohio State, which of course is tons.

Manchester, VT. Went for a wedding a few years ago. Adorable town, quaint inns, great hiking, pick your own fruit, swimming in a quarry, shopping...we had a really good time.

+1 to Columbus. There's a great art scene there too with the Wexner Gallery (at OSU), and we were pleasantly surprised by the Columbus Museum of Art--it's very family friendly and lots of neat exhibits going on. But no matter what you do there, be sure to indulge your sweet tooth: stop by Jeni's for some of the best ice cream that you'll ever have in your life, and check out either Northstar Café or Katalina's for brunch (try the stuffed pancake balls!)--you'll thank me later.
