| JMU was a hot up and coming school in the 90s , but now it's blah |
|
|
This thread is hilarious. I graduated from JMU in the 90s. My college friends and I have managed to achieve successful enough professional careers that we could purchase homes in major metropolitan areas up and down the east coast (and for several of us, second homes) while raising families.
But apparently we are failures, because not everyone has heard of our alma mater. |
|
It's not always the school, it's the student and his/her motivation.
If JMU is Virginia's "best kept secret" among colleges, I'm sure the alumni don't mind it one bit. |
| No OP, but unless someone goes to an Ivy or Stanford/MIT ... all of the rest are pretty much the same--- "Standard State U. or the likes". Stop being so snobbish. Where did you go? |
JMU and UNCW are in the same athletics conference (except for football, as UNCW doesn't have a football program), that is why people know what JMU is. |
| JMU also has had a good football program for the past few years (Division I-AA now called FBS). |
7-0 this season! |
Poster who has been called oblivious and not smart here. I definitely know Macalester and Bowdoin! To answer the JMU grad following, nobody doubts you can't be successful just because some people haven't heard of your school. Don't worry about it. |
+1 JMU seems to be doing well in their conference against W&M, Richmond, Villanova, Delaware as well as UM.... |
Funny. I am JMU grad (granted also have PhD in Economics from UChicago, and I have never seen you in my role at World Bank... I am not the only one either... |
So is William and Mary, Villanova, JMU, Richmond....your point? |
JMU yes. It is known (along with Va Tech) as being solid backup to UVA and W&M. Not sure about Newport.... |
I went there in the 1980s. Have to say this thread is amusing-almost like someone has an axe to grind against James Madison. Seems odd. Never had any problem with name recognition with my alma mater in Philadelphia main line suburbs for what it's worth. JMU is viewed as a pretty good school by most folks here....although a lot of folks mistake it as a private school. |
+1...FYI for Business it ranks as one of the top 25 business undergrads in the nation www.businessweek.com |
