| Do Einstein kids consider UMCP as a safety? Do most of kids who apply get accepted? |
Not sure anyone should consider UMCP a "safety school" anymore. According to this chart, only about 50% of the BCC kids who applied last year were accepted... http://www.bethesdamagazine.com/Bethesda-Magazine/September-October-2014/College-Bound/index.php?cparticle=2&siarticle=1#artanc |
True. I worry my DC won't make the cut. The avg SAT scores are very high. I also heard WGPA for incoming class was over 4.0 (4.2 I think but not sure). |
UMD is a safety for very few (only the highest performing) students nowadays. |
Really most of the kids from the rest of the W's and Blair got in. Only BCC had a low rate and that might have something to do with the kids who applied to account for the anomaly. Not like UMCP is interview lock level diploma. I think it is a supply and demand problem with them getting picky as there aren't many quality public universities in MD compared to the number of students. |
Wootton is also 33% Asisan-so there's that! |
Kensington, Garrett park and the Wyngate ES area clusters are very white. There is a bit more diversity in Farmland, Luxmanor and Ashburton ES clusters-they all feed into WJ. Most are wealthy though and quite snobby! |
Data please. I'd like to see data that shows that most of the kids from the Ws and Blair get into UMCP. It is also a supply and demand problem because private colleges and universities are prohibitively expensive for most people. |

The source for the data is this Bethesda Mag chart
http://www.bethesdamagazine.com/Bethesda-Magazine/September-October-2014/College-Bound/index.php?cparticle=2&siarticle=1#artanc Acceptances to UMD-CP: Churchill--83% Whitman--77% Wootton--72% Blair--65% WJ--64% |
| Can someone post similar data for E? |
I bet not too many will get it. Einstein's average SAT score for Math and Reading combined is 1035 which is more than 200 points lower than bottom 25%tile of accepted student (1260-1420, mid 50%tile). Only about 50% of kids took the test which shows not enough kids are college bound. |
What does this mean? |
If your point is that there more kids at Einstein from poor and low-SES families than at Whitman/Churchill/B-CC etc. -- I think that everybody knew that already. In fact the small percentage of kids from poor/low-SES families at Whitman and Churchill is precisely what makes them Whitman and Churchill. And the comparatively higher percentage of such kids at B-CC is what keeps B-CC of the Wealthy/White list. Otherwise people would be insisting that B-CC is OBVIOUSLY a W school because the full name is W-Bethesda-Chevy Chase (the W is silent). |
