No. Even if I wasn't a dancer, the industry would still exist. Grown-ups are responsible for their own actions, period.

I don't have a problem with what you do, but that answer is not really justification. Almost any crime and hurtful action can be justified in this manner.

OP is not responsible for other people's choices.

She is enabling them

I have been propositioned - it happens all the time. I'm never tempted to take any of the men (or couples, it's happened) up on their offer. I've found some of the men attractive, but I'm in a money-making mindset, and I'm married - not interested.

How much money would it take for you to accept a proposition

Do you have super awesome breasts (big, perky) and long legs with a perfect butt? Or is this just the tv/movie version of your position so your body and the bodies of those who are your peers are more "real?"

Not perfect. No one I work with - even the 20 year olds - have perfect bodies. I have stretch marks. Porn and fashion magazines have photo editors, lighting, etc. We have low lighting and body makeup. We are all fit, though. Even the bigger girls (size 8/10) are toned. You just can't be flabby and walking around in underwear all night.

My boobs are nothing like they were pre-baby, but they are big and pretty perky. I'm short, so no long legs - that's what the five inch heels are for!

It's a cash business, so I get hit hard at tax time. My monthly net is around 8000.

No I'm not. I'm Latina (American born).

Do you keep your mind on the money and keep your eyes on the wall.

Of course I think of them as human! My "real" industry is the nonprofit world; I'm a total bleeding heart liberal. This job is, like anything, what you make of it. I could feel filthy, objectified, and begin to see all men as monsters, but it's much more complex than that. I have to keep it in perspective. Don't get me wrong, though: it's not easy.

There seems to be huge earnings potential with no degrees req! For example after taxes, I make 2800 a month as a lawyer for the gov!

I think a lot of strippers stay stuck because they don't keep their eyes on the prize - because there is no prize. They have no goals. They throw their money away on flashy jewelry, expensive vacations, cars, clothes and (yes) drugs, etc. It becomes a lifestyle. Then they wake up and aren't able to do this job anymore, and don't have anything to show for it.

I don't do this. My son's future is very important and I've been socking away almost all of my earnings from the very beginning with him in mind. My family lives off of my husband's earnings - we pretend as though my income doesn't exist (save for unexpected emergencies - car troubles, etc).

Just chiming in to say you go girl. I did a little bit in college. It was a mixed experience - sometimes confidence boosting and fun, other times not so much... but the money was good and it was an interesting experience. You have an awesome attitude, and thanks for showing DCUM that strippers are just normal (often kind, intelligent) women.

OP here. I'm impressed with how respectful the discourse has been. What a pleasant surprise, DCUM!

Thank you! I've been chiming in on this site for years and thought I'd give this a go. I totally expected a pile on. Thank you for your kind words!
