Clueless kids on bus

"Coincidence that the anti-AAP crowd comes out in force this time of year with phony/revived threads? I think not."

Absolutely spot-on observation, PP. It's that time of year again.

DCUM, please move this old and overgrown thread to the AAP forum where it belongs.

Teach your kids to not be jerks. That's the rule. Doesn't matter if they are aap or gen Ed.

Besides- lets be real. I've worked with " aap" kids. Things have changed. They ain't GT, that's for sure...

SO true.

This thread involves both AAP and Gen Ed kids and there is no reason to move it. It's quite applicable right here, even if you don't like what it's about.

I know it is frustrating when your first child goes through the AAP process in 2nd grade. But parents your normal smart kids are much better off than being in the AAP center. Trust me been there done that. Just tell your child they are well adjusted, socially accepted and smart across all subjects and do not need to be in the AAP center and that the majority of the kids in the AAP center are socially awkward, advanced in only 1 or 2 areas and need to be in the AAP center with like kids. Have your child try this on the bus and see what happens!

Yeah... I get what you are saying here, but that's not really what I'm saying. I think in this instance the girl being singled out/ picked on needs to find a graceful way past the situation. I'm not sure what that is. Certainly, kids needs to learn to stand up for themselves.
I remember the 5th grade being a very difficult time with mean girls when I was growing up. It seems that kids grow up quicker these days. Not surprising to hear this sort of thing coming from 3rd grade girls.
No come back would have ever really helped at that age- not with a mean girl group dynamic.
It wasn't until I realized I could make different friends and it would be fine. The other girls hurt me because I allowed them to. I learned that they could mean nothing to me, and the spell was broken.
I don't know how you get a child to come to that conclusion on their own. Certainly, social media makes it much more difficult.

But yeah- there is some social awkwardness found in AAP. Perhaps, that's part of the problem with the original conversation. Truly gifted learners can have a very difficult time interacting with all kinds of other children.

However, the girls above just a sound like little turds.
Cheers!

I don't think this is an AAP issue. It is a mean girls issue. I have heard a lot worse from other mean girls.

Nope, the OP made this chiefly about AAP kids and their parents by concluding with this:
"Parents of AAP kids: please stop telling your kids they are "smarter" than the others. They will parrot this BS back, even if you think they won't, making them even more insufferable than usual."

The AAP forum has plenty of posts along the same lines and those mention Gen Ed kids too. So should all those posts also be in the VA forum since they mention Gen Ed.?

Fine. Move it. Comment about little turds applies either way.

I remember this thread and it still strikes me as a made-up scenario by a poster who wanted an excuse to call AAP kids "insufferable." There was a whole string of threads last year in which AAP kids were supposedly bullying or belittling non-AAP kids in different situations and then the threads seemed to stop. It was more than a little suspicious.

I would imagine there will be teasing thrown both ways. Plenty to go around. I found the comments by parents defending the girls even in a made up scenario disturbing.
I remember some assholes back in the day used to taunt the TJ kids when they switched from their base schools over to Jefferson.
The TJ students used to chant back, " it's ok. It's ok. You'll be working for us someday!"
I loved them for that.

I think it was "it's alright, it's OK..." and it was the standard TJ response at sporting events when kids at other schools chanted "do your homework." Interesting that you'd defend the former, but label the latter "taunts " by "assholes." TJ parents think TJ students can never do anything wrong, similar to parents who would defend AAP students calling another girl "not smart enough."

This is so true. Maybe I'll tell my DC this so she'll have something to say in return the next time someone tells her she'd be in AAP if she was just "smarter". Thanks, PP!

Well, you don't have me pegged at all...
DC isn't out of diapers. No idea what kind of student I've got on my hands. These are recollections from the 90's. Just a non TJ kid's observations from back in the day. As I said, plenty of teasing to go around. However, I don't remember the TJ kids to be the instigators in these scenarios. It was a different school then as I understand it to be now. However, that is truly a discussion for a different thread.

Wrong. The reason this post should be in this forum (and maybe also in the AAP forum, for all I care) is because the Gen Ed kids are the ones being affected when AAP kids throw out these ignorant comments. As for whether the two forums should merge, that would actually be fine with me. The two groups of kids are so similar, there is really no need to segregate forums pertaining to the two - much like the unnecessary segregation of AAP/Gen Ed classrooms.

You clearly don't have a Gen Ed child attending a center school.
