This isn't really about aap etc... Even if it's made up. It's about little kids being twats, and mommies and daddies who condone it. Teach your kids to not be jerks. That's the rule. Doesn't matter if they are aap or gen Ed. Besides- lets be real. I've worked with " aap" kids. Things have changed. They ain't GT, that's for sure...
I know it is frustrating when your first child goes through the AAP process in 2nd grade. But parents your normal smart kids are much better off than being in the AAP center. Trust me been there done that. Just tell your child they are well adjusted, socially accepted and smart across all subjects and do not need to be in the AAP center and that the majority of the kids in the AAP center are socially awkward, advanced in only 1 or 2 areas and need to be in the AAP center with like kids. Have your child try this on the bus and see what happens!
Yeah... I get what you are saying here, but that's not really what I'm saying. I think in this instance the girl being singled out/ picked on needs to find a graceful way past the situation. I'm not sure what that is. Certainly, kids needs to learn to stand up for themselves. I remember the 5th grade being a very difficult time with mean girls when I was growing up. It seems that kids grow up quicker these days. Not surprising to hear this sort of thing coming from 3rd grade girls. No come back would have ever really helped at that age- not with a mean girl group dynamic. It wasn't until I realized I could make different friends and it would be fine. The other girls hurt me because I allowed them to. I learned that they could mean nothing to me, and the spell was broken. I don't know how you get a child to come to that conclusion on their own. Certainly, social media makes it much more difficult. But yeah- there is some social awkwardness found in AAP. Perhaps, that's part of the problem with the original conversation. Truly gifted learners can have a very difficult time interacting with all kinds of other children. However, the girls above just a sound like little turds. Cheers!
