Why won't my wife shop at Giant or Safeway like a normal person?

I agree with the aldis poster. I spend $70 a week for a family of 3. I am not trying to sound like a self congratulatory bitch, but it absolutely can be done. I do not buy organic however. We eat a lot of fish (not breaded). I cook on the weekends. I also use an online service called emeals. Emails you a grocery list from store of your choice, weekly, and recipes. Highly recommend emeals.

Giant and Whole Foods are almost similar in pricing. Gypsy just need to know what to buy in WF? Shop the sales, get a grocery list, do a meal plan for a week and then do the shopping. We r a family of four. I cook dinner every night except one. 100$ weekly is our WF bill. We eat proper meals( not just salad or soup but entrees with protein starch and veggy sides). Your wife needs to shop smarter. Not shop elsewhere necessarily.

Yes. She's of the impression that everything sold there is inferior. That the produce will end up giving our kid a 3rd arm. Even though you can buy organic from there. Hell you can buy organic at WalMart. But I'll settle for Giant since it's close enough. We're also spending another $400 a month of dining out at Crisp & Juicy, 2 Amys, MeiWah etc. This is bullshit. And when I brought it up she started yelling about not having time to cook etc.

She sounds very silly. Giant food is inferior -- yet she's feeding your kid from Crisp & Juicy, 2 Amys, and Meiwah? Does she think they use ingredients that are organic or in any way higher quality than what she would be getting at Giant? Your kid would be much better off eating the "crap' from Giant than the overly sugary, salty, fried (albeit delicious!) stuff your wife is getting from carry-out. Good luck with this one!

Explain. Explain how eggs from Giant are "inferior."

Ugh - you should really investigate where your eggs come from. You might go vegan.

We eat pasture-raised eggs from WF.

you can get free-range eggs at any store these days.

This. We shop at Giant and they have the same brands of free-range, organic eggs that you can get at WF. I forget the brand (Pete's?) but it's in a clear plastic container.

flame away -- but with the number of peole in this country who are food-insecure, i think it is in extremely poor taste to go on and on that your precious family just cannot bear eating apples or chicken from a conventional store.

it's fine to shop that way, but nix the grandstanding.

I can relate to your wife. Shopping at Giant feels like a chore. Shopping at Whole Foods is much more fun. Cleaner, more beautiful produce, better help, a coffee bar...

It's like shopping at Neimans vs Macys... you feel more pampered. And that makes you feel good.

Yes, why the fuck is your meat going bad that quickly? Throw the beef in the ffreezer if it's getting old. Or cook it up quickly. That doesn't take very long and gives you a few more days.

Yes. I just threw away a bunch of strawberrys yesterday. We have meat from WF in the freezer that had been there for a week and had freezer burn so I threw it out. She bought ground beef for chili a few nights ago andit turned out to be a late evening so we didn't use it and just ordered takeout. Beef thrown away...

Whaaaat??? Are you saying your DW bought some meat, didn't use it for a day or two, then threw it away? And meat left in the freezer you throw away after a single week? I have meat in my deep freezer in the basement for months, sometimes as long as a year. I just thaw it out and cook it, and it's fine. Maybe you need a better fridge/freezer, OP.

NP here. You sound insufferable and snotty with your pasture-raised egg investigation. I'm not going to bother because I think just about anything is ok in moderation. I am not convinced everything I eat is going to kill me like some of you freaks.

It's not always about YOUR health, asshole. How about those poor animals that you are eating? I'm sure if you feed your own family crap food you don't care at all what they do to the chickens, cows, etc.
