Any AAP letters?

Received letter today

What were subscores? I would have thought you would be in with those numbers. Maybe it is the work samples?

I am happy my kids got in and am not questioning the basis, but to the poster who asked about subscores...how would you know what they are? Ask the school to see the file? The letter we received doesn't address the basis for qualification other than to say the board determined eligibility.

Can anybody offer feedback on the Riverside ES level IV center?

sorry, the FAT subscores from the fall. Since advanced math is automatic with Center eligibility, I would think that kids would almost have to have good quantitative scores on the FAT if they are accepted.

If you can afford to do the WISC, it's worth a shot. Those seem like decent scores.

Those scores are better than decent, and better than several who got in and posted scores on the other thread. I am shocked. Mistakes were made.

Appeal with a WISC. Your kid will probably knock it out of the park, and will get in.

What happens if they don't get in? What is the big deal? Do they actually teach 2 separate curriculum for each grade? Or is it just a little bit different? Except for math. I can see how that one is different, but the rest?!?

The depth, breadth and pace of instruction is different in Level IV.

The curriculum is the same, except math is one year head. For high performing schools with compacted math, the difference is minimal. Most of the general education students in wealthy area are performing above grade level so the depth and pace is increased. In lower performing schools, the difference can be great. Poorer areas with large ESOL and FARMs populations have a disproportional number of struggling students. The depth and pace of instruction slow down as a result. This is why many parents in lower performing schools are so worked up. You see a lot of higher income areas where many of the students choose to stay at their base school and not change to the center school as its not worth the hassle.

+1

Our Title I base school (with Local Level IV) has one Center-eligible student in the 3rd grade AAP class. The rest of the Center-eligible 3rd grade students chose the Level IV Center school where there are two classes of 3rd grade Center-eligible students.
