Haricots Verts (French Green Immersion Charter)

There was an initial thought on closing the group, but just a thought. The group decided to continue active outreach and invitees continued to be welcomed. An initial meeting was set-up and wound up being out of reach for most. So, thereafter a very well intentioned member seemed to suggest a "needs assessment" from vested members. I think there was the suggestion of submissions of resumes, but I'm not certain. I just remember getting cold feet. There was also concern over some negativity about focus of the group. At this point, I think it'd be positive to put that behind us and resume trying to move forward. I've made some personal strides towards looking at the initial steps and think others may have as well. If we're kindred spirits in this regard, let's try again!

I was the PP who originally mentioned the group being closed.

Just to be clear - I was actually speaking very specifically about the email list. I am not the moderator for the list and I do not know if it is possible, for example, for the person who was asking questions to send an email to that yahoo address and have the group receive it.

There was discussion of closing the founder's group, which I believe was in response to concerns about getting things done in a large group. Clearly this is not an issue that the HV group has right now, since we cannot muster more than 2 people to meet on a Saturday morning. I would be in favor of bringing in new people, in particular people who may be representative of constituencies not currently reflected in the original group.

I don't think there's be any discord with continuing outreach. I think that was the sentiment. I think the "falling apart was about not being able to meet. We'll never be able to pinpoint why people were reluctant to try rescheduling, but for me, posting my résumé if that was suggested seemed strange to me. Not speaking for anyone else.

For several reasons, posting my resume would have seemed strange to me too. I was and still am comfortable with a more casual, in person assessment of what people are bringing to the table. I hope it happens, and I hope new people get in touch.

I am the moderator of the yahoo group and I've only received two additional emails since the original influx of emails.

Good to know the email in this thread still works to sign up new interested folks. Anyome compelled by this idea and willing to explore it seriously (no one has committed to anything yet, just exploration) please get in touch!

In summary, HV is not dead.

It's a zombie.

Let's home someone can awaken the zombie. I just checked for any emails resulting from this thread with renewed interest and there weren't any. In the event that seems like a done deal, is anyone interested in forming a new group- one completely fresh with positive objectives, willingness to work out differences face to face (and not anonymously on DCUM, as much as I love it here) and goals to reach out to the entire community while focusing attention on attracting Francophone buy in? Please post here and around when you think you'd be able to come in for a meeting. I understand the reluctance if there's some commitment to provide resume's etc... I'm looking for something non-threatening to start a conversation. Just earnest, good natured parents wanting to work together.

Why start a new group? Just post to the group to revive it....all of the emails here on DCUM could easily go to the yahoo group. I don't understand it.

Have you contacted the Alliance Francaise Educational Outreach Initiative? You will need a partner like AF or francophone embassies to be taken seriously by the charter school board. (Change the name. Vraiement, c'est ridicule.)

A program sponsored by the Alliance Française de Washington in partnership with the District of Columbia Public School System (DCPS), Alliance Française Educational Initiatives are an expression of the AFDC's long term commitment to the local community. Each week the AFEI program sends highly qualified and certified French teachers into DCPS schools to offer a lively mix of rigorous language training and cultural enrichment activities.

PP, thank you for posting this! I'd like to see the group revived, but feel awkward for some reason. I hope I can get the courage to reignite it!

Any word on whether or not the group was revived? If so, I'd like to email to join.

Cap City, Two Rivers, Yu Ying, and Mundo Verde were all started by parents.

See there! A very useful link posted by someone late to the thread! You have to keep updates alive in DCUM. A gold prospector knows they have to sift through tons of mud and scum, but it's all worth it when you get that gold nugget.
