17th & L. Definitely a bar. Total meat market. First bar I went to in DC back in 94. I worked a block away.

Hah -- so many good memories of some of the places pps have mentioned on many of the pages here. I miss Beefsteak Charlies that was in Rosslyn. Once when my dad was in town we went there and I think it was one of his most memorable dining experiences...all the shrimp and what not you could eat with endless sanguiras and lots of other great eats. No wonder it went bankrupt. It was like $6.99 or something.

Also, Mie N U recently closed in Georgetown almost w/o notice. The place was good but kind of costly. Also miss Nathans.

+ 1 to Magic Pan and Colorado Kitchen and the Crow Bar.

Is the American Cafe in Herndon part of the chain from the late 80s or from the later different chain from the early 2000s?

Yes!! The original meat market, along with Rumors and Gusti's and Mad Hatter. Yes, I partied in the '80s in DC.

And Mike Bakers and Mister Days.

And Samantha's in the alley too - don't remember exactly where it was b/c I was always drunk going there.

Are you me?

Was it the mid-late 90's? Cause we would have been the group of people acting like idiots on the dance floor of Samantha's and telling the DJ every song to play. I feel like no one ever went in there late night so I might even be outing myself.

Still can't believe Nathan's is no longer. Good replacement I guess.
