both 35 years old
HHI: $200k 401(k) and Roth IRA Husband: 110k 401(k) and Roth IRA Wife: 70k No child |
My advice, not that you asked, is to get aggressive on saving now. No child and $200K income? You should be able to save $100,000 a year. Do it now before kids mess your plans up. |

Me: 34 yrs old. ~100K in TSP + IRAs
DH: 34 yrs and about 75K since his TSP is less than mine since I've been w/ the gov't longer Toghether have a total of ~200K invested outside of that HHI 200K Pregnant with first (and most likely only) child. |
| 45 yo. About $250,000 in retirement. But we have two real pensions as well. Still, we know we need to save more. |
Envy! I wish I had pensions. |
What do you mean by "real" pensions? Do you mean Defined Benefit pensions (the promise of future monthly payments)? What about Defined Contribution pensions (your money matched now by employer invested for future)? |
|
Me--36--$200k plus pension
DH-37 --$330k plus pension. |
| I can't wait for my next promotion... I get access to a deferred comp plan whereby I can put 100% on my salary into it. Plus company matches on top. |

| 41 and $208k. But I lost my job two years ago and recently became employed again so now I can resume saving. |
|
45 - ~1,150,000 in 401K's/funds between wife and myself.
~300,000 in cash reserves (thinking about new home) ~325,000 in home equity. HHI ~320K, but it has jumped up a lot recently. One kid. At this point we're saving ~120K a year. |
Impressed. |
Taxes will eat up a huge amount, no way you can save 100k unless you are living like a graduate student. And maybe they don't want kids. |
Meh. I make $230K, have two kids, a $3,200 a month nanny and save $70K a year. $100K a year would be ballpark doable with no kids and no nanny. |
