Me: 37, 320K (in TSP and 401k combined)
DH: 38, 300K (TSP)

college savings for 5 yo and 1 yo: 47K

What government agency pays that much

320 is combined for both of us. Two different agencies.

crazy

Huh? That's not crazy, that's two GS-15s making $155 each plus bonus.

Yeah, we're about there as two 15s, one of whom also has the early pension of a disabled vet. And that is not counting income from the stock portfolio part of our investments. Though I would (and, to DD, do) recommend law school over Iraq.

Bump

40 YO, wife is 39YO
HHI = $150K
Retirement Savings = $250K
College Savings = $25K per child (10 yo, 7 yo)

i'm not sure if we're screwed or not.
40 and 38
combined retirement savings $400K
plus about $100K in other savings.
$500K equity
$250K single federal salary.

Plus a federal annuity on this salary. With current 15 years of service that would be $37K/year.

35 and 220K. I started with a 24K salary, got a grad degree (no loans) and now make 120K. I also get 200% match on the first 4% on my 403b and an additional 2.5% bump for profit sharing so right now I sock away about $28K per year in my 403b. Zero pension.

me: age 42; 277k in 401k
DH: age 42; nothing (his company sucks)
1 investment condo (current worth 250k)
1 investment land property (current worth 100k)
our house (current worth 700k)

I am not going to rely on 401k. This year the market could tank and cut my number in 1/2. I really wish one of us was gov, that is the only way to have guaranteed retirement income.

HHI 175 (only a few years ago this was more like $125)
DH 42 and me, 40
Total Retirement (401k and IRAs) 425k
We are on track but have other priorities too: mortgage, emergency savings (need to bulk it up to 8 months+), college savings, childcare, home repair, vacations, etc etc etc!!!!!!

Thanks! I have been saving zealously since my 20s and got lucky with real estate market timing.

I also have about $300K in home equity but didn't count that since I don't intend to sell/downsize in retirement.
