Did you go to a school where you were a minority as a Caucasian
Did you go to a school where your GT teacher kept trying to save children by temporary custody order Did you get your a** slapped on a regular basis while being called Domino as in white sugar did a boy come up to you and try and spread your legs on the playground Did you get gum and Now & Laters thrown in your hair daily Did you watch as the principal pulled down a crying boy's pants and spanked him so hard it left welts in front of the class, with his mom's permission Yeah i didn't think so but that's just me not for me not for my kid |
| Hysterics as per usual when it comes to Alexandria. And ACPS isn't DCPS. If you think so, you've got issues. |
| How is it "hysterics" to say that being Caucasian was the minority? It's a fact at several schools in the City. |
There are thugs and drug dealers at every school!?!?!? Not when I went to school, and if that's the case now, perhaps you should be enraged instead of complacent and intolerant of those who find drug dealing in schools to be unacceptable. What have we come to if we're ok with thugs and drug dealers? And if it's a virtue to keep your kids in schools with these types of people, perhaps you should seek out even more dangerous environments for your children---you'd really be virtuous then. -(an apparent) elitist |
I guess you looking for 1950s Virginia if you want all-white (segregated) public schools. OMG, white people are minorities in schools? How do we let this happen? |
I went to junior high and high school in New Jersey in the 1980s. Total suburbia, 95% white. Yes, there were drugs. No, I didn't want any. Never got bothered. Guess you lived in Mayberry or something. |
| After all the metal detectors, wearing ID badges, Gang Liaison Officers, drug busts, 14 year-olds doling out "rainbow" BJs in the boys' room and still more drug busts I vowed my children would not be part of a virtuous well-intentioned social experiment conducted by their parents. Best of luck to you all. |

| I grew up in eastern Europe. No drugs, none of this nonsense we have here in the US. The thought of my kids dealing with drug dealers in school makes me want to move to Europe. |
Go right ahead. After all, the Croatians, Bosnians and Serbs have a lot to teach us dumb-ass Americans about how to get along. And those Romanian orphanages are nothing short of inspirational. |
| Jesus, is this stupid topic still going on? You all sound like a bunch of high school girls, grow up. |

Re:
Your comments or should I say, opinions on this matter is completely baseless and out of touch with reality that most folks will consider them irrelevant. Your decision to NOT address said private schools by name and the careful way your words are chosen, leads me to believe that you are afraid of criticisms by the masses. My educated guess is that you are an attorney or someone in the legal profession, trying to avoid any repercussions from “said [anonymous] schools.” I suspect that there is more to the story (THE TRUTH) than you are willing to admit. I consider your comments ridiculous at best to the point of being absurd. Now, I give you the chance to redeem yourself and tell us the “whole truth and nothing but the truth so help you God.” Wow. Bizarre. Most of the posts don't mention most of the schools by name. They're not necessarily supposed to. |
| I don't know, we send my son to kindergarten at Maury (one of the ones thought of as being better) and some of the parents at that school clearly have a ton of money (country houses, huge homes etc.). Yes, there are also some kids from housing projects. It seems like a pretty good mix to me so far, and I'm happy with it. |

Most ACPS elementary schools are absolutely fine. Some are excellent. Both of the middle schools are decent enough and academically on par with most of the private schools. And TC Williams is actually excellent; the academic program regularly produces terrific successes. An engaged kid with parents who pay attention will be just fine in ACPS.

Your standards are much lower than mine if you think that TC Williams is "excellent." |
