The poor is already overcrowding our public schools with they illiterate children. Private school is for the wealthy and upper middle class.

Agree. The source of probelen is that poor and illiterate people with too many kids are over crowding the public schools.

In the richest and greatest country on earth (built largely on the backs of poor people) why are these poor people with too many kids overcrowding the public schools?

Because every parent should want the best education possible for their kid.
Why do you think your kid is entitled to a better education than someone elses? I think that every kid that gets admitted deserves to attend

Lady, I can't afford a Mercedes...that doesn't mean that I think I deserve one just because someone else has the money to buy it.

I suggest that those who are offended by poor students that attend their kids school should:
Arrive at the school with a loud speaker to warn other children, put up a boom to scare them away, write letters to other parents and get their help in banishing these kids.

We have a much different mind set then those who paid in full, because we know that a school does not want a underperforming student, much less, one who is using money another student could use, so we push ourselves to achieve the most we can. Some of you posted as if we are the scum of the earth, but after my father died my mother worked 3 jobs along with raising 4 more kids, and I worked one just to support my family and pay the remainder of the tuition. Now if any of you people who think you are above us want to put yourselves in my shoes or my mothers and still think the same thoughts then shame on you. The opportunity I was given through a generous person's donations allowed me to excel to the point where I can afford to pay full tuition for my 3 children and give to the financial aid funds. Thank you and maybe this will change your mind about where your dollars go.

I'm glad you got that opportunity. Thanks for posting.

For the last time: Private schools do not give FA out of some sort of social justice campaign. They do it for two reasons: to balance their books so that they can keep their non-profti gravy train status and to attract smart kids who could not afford the school otherwise, but if given an incentive to attend will inflate the schools SAT scores and college placement results. That is it people.

When I was a kid, I moved from a private elementary school to a public middle school. It was a fantastic educational move (education in a broad sense) -- I went from a smallish class of homogeneous, mostly upper-middle class kids to a very large class of kids from all walks of life. I soon had classmates/friends whose dads were factory workers and telephone company workers. The kids were also much more advanced socially (dances, movies, kissing and more, trying cigarettes, etc.) than they were at my prior small private school. So I think having some "poor kids" or kids on FA can, by their presence and shared experiences, provide a broader education for the other, more well-off kids. It's part of the educational value of diversity (by diversity, I mean variety of race, religion, wealth, etc.).

So as a parent you think this is a GOOD thing?

You should recommend this to the President. He has his kids at private school, but worked hard to have the funding cut for poor kids to attend the same school and others.

I believe the only reason to give someone a large amount of FA is if the child is smart and determined to work hard and simply can't afford the private school education.
