Keep the Poor Students in Poor Schools

New money may be A LOT of money, millions, but if you work for it, made it yourself, you are not Upper Class, you might be "rich" but you will never be upper class, ypur kids maybe provided that you invest well.
Income not based on earnings from own work, but from inherited wealth: land, dividend, trusts, etc...

You are a pompous idiot, most like a wannabe but never gonna be 1%er.

I have been on financial aid since second grade and onwards. Those of us on/have been on aid are more appreciative and thankful to those who donate then you may ever imagine. We have a much different mind set then those who paid in full, because we know that a school does not want a underperforming student, much less, one who is using money another student could use, so we push ourselves to achieve the most we can. Some of you posted as if we are the scum of the earth, but after my father died my mother worked 3 jobs along with raising 4 more kids, and I worked one just to support my family and pay the remainder of the tuition. Now if any of you people who think you are above us want to put yourselves in my shoes or my mothers and still think the same thoughts then shame on you. The opportunity I was given through a generous person's donations allowed me to excel to the point where I can afford to pay full tuition for my 3 children and give to the financial aid funds. Thank you and maybe this will change your mind about where your dollars go.

Why is public school not an option for poor students?

OP -- only in DC would someone call themselves "poor" for being on FA. Many folks on FA make more money than the majority of Americans. DC is just an expensive area. If everyone in America has the right to go to a public school -- then why would anyone think they have the right to go to a private school?

I don't mind "poor folks" getting FA. I mind folks who aren't poor gaming the system to get it.

How many families on financial aid live below poverty level?
Anonymous
15:27 not many! The truth is the schools want to provide aid to higher achieving lower income students - teachers, fire fighters, college educated parents who are choosing to pursue career over income.

They do not want a 25 year old or younger mom with a 5 year old no matter how smart their kid is.

Children born into poverty like men and woman born with fatal congenital heart disease, or unbeknownst to themselves, destined for life altering cancer or physical trauma deserve no financial aid or help. This is America. God's country. Home to the tea bag. This is democracy and free enterprise...at its best.

If every one of us on DCUM mentored one of these children, we could have such a positive impact!

Because every parent should want the best education possible for their kid.
Why do you think your kid is entitled to a better education than someone elses? I think that every kid that gets admitted deserves to attend

This thread is so unfortunately typical - it's just another version of "MY school is the greatest so long as MY child and their needs and MY narrow, self centered expectations remain at the center of the universe at ALL times because I paid for it, and therefore, any ignorance concerning what I actually signed up for should be excused......

Agree. The source of probelen is that poor and illiterate people with too many kids are over crowding the public schools.

Lady, I can't afford a Mercedes...that doesn't mean that I think I deserve one just because someone else has the money to buy it.

That's a stoooopid comparison!

How so? I thought it was an accurate comparison.

How about food? If a child's family cannot afford to buy food, do they deserve to eat? (just as valid as the Mercedes comparison) How about adults to raise them? If a child is orphaned, do they have a right to have a grown up care for them?
