Not a Mormon here but that makes Catholics what....? Pedophiles?

Grow up! You give atheists a bad name.

I see... so bashing Mormons because their leaders had and still may have a lot of unpalatable notions is ok? But reminding the Catholics here that their leaders have attempted to deny, cover up, and then justify rampant institutionalized sexual abuse of and mind-boggling cruelty towards children, and that most of the priests perpetrating these horrible crimes seem to feel no tinge of remorse whatsoever when confronted with the evidence is not acceptable? Why?

If you are a Catholic and Mormonism bothers you that much, please explain to me how you can stand being a Catholic? How you can send your kids to Catholic schools and to church and not fear for their safety?

Ugg, I'm back. OK, last one for sure. I'm not Catholic, nor have I ever been Catholic.

I just think you're incredibly, disgustingly intolerant of anybody who believes differently from you. Did you know that Dawkins recently said he's embarrassed by the behavior of many atheists? I think you'd make him cringe, too. Disagreeing with somebody is not a license to abuse them with playground insults.

Yes, I'm intolerant of child abuse. I assume you disagree?

So wait - it's OK for you to be totally intolerant of mormons, and to come on to DCUM to abuse them with the nastiest, stupidest (e.g. the magnets quip) things you can think of. All because they show their "intolerance" by arriving at your door maybe every two years (they've never, ever showed up at my door) and then leaving politely when asked. I bet you can't even give an example of a Mormon being intolerant to you.

Who is the real intolerant person here? Who is the real abuser? Talk about hypocritical.

Tolerance does not mean that you cannot challenge others' beliefs. Tolerance means that you do not infringe on others' rights.
The LDS, by seeking to use its political power to persecute homosexuals and deny them equal rights, such as the right to marriage, is guilty of perpetrating massive intolerance. People questioning their beliefs on a public forum is not intolerance. You need to learn the difference.

You need to learn the difference between "questioning their beliefs" and insulting people. Most of your posts are pure insults. There is a very big difference, but you are too immature to carry on a rationale, thoughtful conversation about beliefs.

Who exactly is childish here? The ones who believe in an invisible sky god who will tell them what to do (not to mention virgin births, magic golden books etc) or the ones who doubt this?

If you really want to stop this, rather than just posting angry messages why don't you don't something useful and actually pray to the baby Jesus and ask him to stop all the horrid posters?

CRAZY.

This poster is not worth anybody's time of day. With venom like that, I pity her spouse and kids.

There are actually a number of different atheists on this thread. I can assure you that my posts have not been insulting. My point is about the definition of tolerance, and for that matter the definition of insulting. Denying people the right to marry because you feel that their marriages are not worthy is insulting. Questioning beliefs is not.

This is insulting. And childish.

I would tolerate all religions that stay out of my life. Mormons don't do that. Nor do a lot of the wacko Christians. If they just practiced their faith, or whatever you want to call it, fine. No sweat. But let me ask you this - what happened to the separation of church and state? I don't tolerate them, because in essence, they don't tolerate me.

I made no comment about magnets so I have no idea what you're talking about and I specifically stated it was perfectly fine with me if they knock on my door. I said specifically I understood that that's part of the way they practice, but that I personally wouldn't actually talk with them. What part of that is hypocritical or nasty in your opinion?

Couldn't agree more.

and why is it bad/intolerant to question another religion? I think a lot of religions are completely ridiculous, including scientology. would it be ok to question that religion?

I was raised Catholic, wouldn't step inside a church for anything other than a wedding (and that is very reluctantly) now because I find it abhorrent. The priest in my grade school was a, shall we say, prolific pedophile, my high school religion teacher went to jail for "gross sexual imposition" and my best friend's brother in law was molested by a priest. I am posting anti-Mormon stuff because I find the whole premise and avoidance of clear reality ridiculous. If we had an anti-Catholic thread going, I would post pure venom.

Why? Why broadcast pure hate and pure venom?

Why do you deliberately fail to distinguish between good people and bad, of any persuasion, belief or political stripe? Why abuse people who are nothing like the people you describe?

I'm not abusing anyone. I'm referring to an institution that I find abhorrent because they let everything I described happen. They did nothing but actively conceal it. I don't need to look for the good in that institution. I'm sorry that offends you, but the people who I know personally who were abused, well, I find that offensive too.

Mormons are connected. If you are one and have a business then you will do business with only fellow mormons.
The mormon church regularly makes Forbes 500 top list. The salaries that the bishops earn is not publicised.
And women are required to tithe, even though women have absolutely no say in anything
If you join, never ask what happens with the tithe money

Not all of us atheists are insulting people.

I don't think Mormonism is much more far-fetched than other religions. It's just a matter of what's a part of our culture are the stories that are part of Judaism and Christianity. Even without attending church, I'd bet most children have heard about Noah's arc, Jesus' birthday, etc. If you haven't heard about the garments or tablets until you're an adult, it is going to seem "out there".

Most members of Christianity, including Mormons, don't take a lot of these things literally.

I do take personal issue with LDS' role in banning gay marriage in several states. It's hypocritical to blather on about family values while devaluing families that aren't identical to their own. There are also court cases, like the father in Virginia whose daughter was adopted by a Utah couple. The Utah courts denied his petition for custody of his own child because he's not married to the birthmother. Utah has a real bias against any non-traditional families and that stance hurts parents and children that get caught in their crosshairs. But, this thread is not about politics or Mormon-values crushing families. So I'll shut up about that now.

But can you accept that not every catholic is a pedophile? And therefore not every catholic deserves your abuse?
