Sick of people w/dogs walking them up to and on elementary school property

The moral here is respect other people. The majority of you do, so it should not be a problem. If my child is in danger, I will protect them and "Bend it Like Beckham." Simple as that.

Yes! You need to protect their dangling limbs! I never knew this was such a big problem in Washington, D.C.

Hilarious.

Are you being paranoid? Defensive much? I didn't accuse YOU of anything. I haven't made any generalizations. I merely stated that my children have been the victim of much dog licking and jumping...much to my and their dislike. Were these your dogs? I don't know...just like YOU don't know what type of person I am.

Oh my gosh, you are the same person that posts on pretty much every thread "paranoid? defensive, much?" when you don't have anything to say. Are you the one whose husband posted about her locking herself in the bathroom, obsessed with DCUM?

This is a riot!

Sorry, not the one. Check with JSteele. Wish I could lock those licking, jumping dogs in the bathroom with their owners to share saliva 'til the cows come home. Alas, I doubt that will happen. Think I'll just get some Nikes and practice my soccer moves.

You are a total nutcase. But sure, go ahead with your soccer moves (umm...okay...) and I'll be sure to have my cell phone so I can call the police when you act agressively towards my dog.

DC has 300 murders a year, almost non of which are solved by DC's donut-eating finest. I bet they will leap into action -
"There is a lady in Tenleytown who says there is someone acting aggressively towards her dog - they are even using soccer moves. We better hurry!"

By the time they get there it will just be a pile of torn, twisted and dangled child, mother and dog limbs.

So now you are threatening parents and children in addition to dogs? You really are a loser.

sorry I was the pp. I was envisioning the situation after soccer mom went into battle vs. cellphone mom, not making a threat.

What a bunch of freaks. I have a hundred lb lab who is in her usual spot, right next to the crib while my 9 week old naps. She is a sweet dog, always has been, always will be. I've never seen one single act of aggression in 7 years and she's been bitten 3x by other dogs. She is a total kid magnet wherever we go. Everyone wants to pat her and I always tell them/their parents that they are welcome to but that they may get licked. I don't purposefully let her seek out kids to lick but if they want to pat her it comes with the territory.

I know there are bad dogs and scared kids all over the place but my god this thread is crazy. Didn't all of you grow up with dogs or with friends who had dogs - do we have to shelter kids from everything today? I truly believe than mean aggresive animals are the exception. But I do have an agressive cat. Maybe we could start a new thread about cats.

18:34 again...y'know the one with the Nike's. I am not the same poster as the one you are referring to above. There must be two of us on the same page. Nike wearers and soccer moms unite!! Just do it.

Yes, this thread is getting riduculous and in some cases, personal...though it is not meant to be. Dogs are not people - despite what some of you may think - the pure emotion some of you are putting into this proves this point. You folks should lighten up. Dogs are animals...butt licking, trash eating, smelly, pea-brained animals. Oh, I forgot, they have with special, healthy super-saliva, too. Despite this, I do not "hate" dogs. Some of you would say negative things about other "pets." Get over it.

I am not an aggressive person and don't go around threatening animals. Some of the responses have been enlightening, but have not changed my opinion. I will still kick your dog if you cannot get it away from my child despite my warnings. We should start a revolution, here. A bit over the yop, but I am willing to have "Beware of the Nike's" signs and buttons to be worn when folks like me are out on walks and dogs (and owners) start this nonsense. If it starts to lick...it gets the kick. Lick it and Kick it. Also, if cell phone mom calls the police after my Nike kick, I'll bet you a buck that the police officer will also kick your dog.

I would rather get licked from head to toe by a dog than have to spend five minutes in the real-life company of some of these anti-dog vigilante DCUMs.

By all means, kick a stranger's dog that is trying to attack your child or her dangling limbs... that's fine and understandable. It's also one of those things that could go on a list of "possible but highly unlikely things that probably aren't worth worrying about." I mean, please.

Can you all please post the neighborhoods where you live with such threatening dogs and oblivious dog owners? It's not my neighborhood, I know that much, and for that I am grateful.

Interestingly, I've noticed a drop in "aggresive" dog issues in Adams Morgan. Maybe it's because there's too much car traffic in front of schools for dogs to walk safely. Just kidding! pls don't flame. Couldn't resist posting to a thread that's more contentious than abortion or WAHM vs SAHM wars.

We can't keep pets in our house (allergies), but our neighbor dog owners (of which there are a TON) have been great with helping expose the kids to dogs while we're out in a safe, unintrusive way that works for 2 and 4-leggers.

Now if they just had retractable leashes in preschool size...JK

Seriously, please keep animals off the playgrounds. That's just gross.

"Call the cops if you kick my dog" poster here. Thanks for some support from other responsible dog owners.

I have to say that I am shocked that there are still people who are saying they would kick dogs! Unbelievable. What would you do to your child if he/she was cruel to an animal? We used to have some neighbors who abused dogs and cats. Their parents laughed it off by saying, "Boys will be boys!" We need to have a little mutual respect!

What's all the uproar about? It's been said before on this thread. If the dog owners are in fact in control of their dogs such that they don't infringe upon the rights of others, there is no need to worry about anyone causing their dogs any harm. I don't believe a single person has posted that s/he would kick or otherwise harm a dog unprovoked.

Please stop comparing shoving an overly frisky dog with a foot with abuse of animals.
BTW, do any of you use "invisible" fences? The animal gets SHOCKED repeatedly.
If you have trained animals, and think that communication can be accomplished with gentle spoken words,...you're nuts.
I will let you in on a secret: they don't speak English, and we don't speak dog.

I think people have been responding to the dog-kicking posts because the initial posts didn't specify that the dog had to be threatening anyone or even "overly frisky." They purported to want to kick any dog that got too close -- there's a big difference.
