I'm pretty sure that few of us could name the men who compete, but most of us know who Simone Biles is.
Also, Mary Lou Retton. Shannon Miller. etc.

A lot has been said lately about the "Miracle on Ice." I remember where I was and the excitement when the team won. So, of course the men had more hype.

This is not an either/or situation.

We watch both in our house.

I would be just as critical of the women's gymnastics team if they laughed about the accomplishments of the men's team.

Also, what about the comment of "close the northern border"? You're being paid millions of dollars to play in a league that is played in another country and that's what you yell out during your medal celebration?

That one does not bother me as much. Yes not in spirit of the Olympics but Canadian players bashing on USA players and vice versa probably happens all the time. I am sure plenty of time is spent ribbing each other constantly and I could definitely see Canadian players wanting to close the southern border as a joke.

If that joke had come from the president of the United States.... Then it would have been in really poor taste.

Seriously? While ICE is killing people in Minnesota, you think this is not offensive and in incredibly poor taste?

It is in poor taste. I was assuming that there was a long history of insults between Canadian and American players. But yes, in this environment I guess that would not excuse that joke.

So powerful and true. Each and every one of them should be ashamed of themselves.

Have we heard from any of the hockey moms?

Not a hockey mom, but I can speak for sports' moms. They are thrilled with the win and could care less about your hurt feelings.

This doesn’t mean what you think it does. Showing your ignorance in more ways than one.

So you think boy sports moms are just water carriers?!? Sad.

Apparently a lot of the guys on the team are from MN, so they absolutely understand the politics at play here, re ICE, re Trump wanting to take over Canada.

As a sports mom, I have higher standards than you for my sons, who have the intellectual capacity and moral integrity to understand that you can be a winner and not condone sexist attitudes.

I bet they don't play hockey, football, or lacrosse!

With high-contact sports that involve physically dominating other people, misogyny is part of the culture. So is CTE. That doesn’t mean these byproducts are desirable.

I bet those two byproducts are related….

The Guardian nailed it with this headline:

US hockey was bathed in a golden Olympic glow. Then Donald Trump and Kash Patel stepped in

And this is an interesting point on allowing a pedophile-protector into the locker room:

“All who work in US sport, from top administrators down to the youth coaching and refereeing levels, are required to take training from the US Center for SafeSport, which reminds them to act promptly if they hear about sexual abuse accusations. So the optics of USA Hockey letting FBI director Kash Patel, who has been accused of mishandling the investigation of the Epstein files, party with the team were not great.”

Breaking news! Hockey douchebros demonstrate their douchebroness. Also water is wet.

Didn’t read the whole thread, but Patel in locker room with the team shotgunning beers and singing Toby Keith songs, that glorify bombing Middle Eastern countries, yeah I’m off the USA hockey train- was never a hockey fan anyway, so no big loss.

No kidding. This cannot have been accidental. The US men's Olympic team and staff has no media training? They were clueless as the high level of political divisiveness represented by Patel? What a waste of a gold medal moment IMO, but it seems that this is what they wanted.

Everyone from USA hockey who was in that room should be fired. Including Mike Sullivan.

Fat-ass Trump was trying to be "one of the guys." But can you picture that bloated pig doing *anything* athletic, ever? And don't say golf, because he is a well-known cheat.
Anonymous
Ironically having the women’s team there would’ve been better for the republicans politically since they claimed to care so much about women’s sports. I guess Trump forgot about that whole charade.

John Pavlovitz:

Look, I get it, guys: you were in a rough spot.
Still flooded with adrenaline after having just accomplished the greatest athletic feat of your lives, something you surely worked tirelessly for and should be extremely proud of, I can imagine it was impossibly easy to get caught up in the moment.

Real men are defined in such moments.
Having the so-called leader of what currently passes for the Free World (whose name appears tens of thousands of times in the Epstein files) shamelessly gushing over you, all while the crazy-eyed head of the FBI guzzles beer like a frat party first-timer who’ll soon be vomiting into the nacho bar, was a lot to contend with.

Women always have a lot to contend with.
And being young men, there’s a good chance you may not have any clue about the terrible optics of you all yukin’ it up with an Olympic-level predator like Donald Trump…

You should have had a clue.

Wow, that’s a weak @ss statement from JP. They’re young, so they don’t get it. Jesus.

Such Kavanaugh energy.
