Does the bolded mean that I have to hate CA? (Gavin, Arnold and Ronald)? And NY? (Rudy, Adam’s, etc.) And IL? (Is Rod B still in jail?) And MN? (Jesse the Body) Where the heck am I supposed to live? |
What a remarkable combination of privilege, obliviousness and foolishness. Most people don’t have the means to move for any reason, much less bc they disagree with their state’s politics. And the very best way to effect political change is for more Dem voters to move to MAGA areas. You’re not doing a lick of good in your MD/DC/NOVA echo chamber, and your vote is being wasted. Want to make a difference? Move your sorry carcass to a purple state or a swing district in a red state. Engage with your community and make your vote count. |

The amount of ignorance from the "maga haters" is staggering and counterproductive. When I read their posts I realize it's by people who think the entire south is like the deepest rural county in Alabama in 1955. While the South has a long and ugly history of it's own, let's not ignore the North wasn't exactly a welcoming hotbed of progressive diversity either.
Today's south is fine. It's growing. Most people have standard suburban lifestyles. More affordable than the coastal cities though that's changing in key southern markets. Schools are increasingly more reliable than places like CA. Rural areas have more in common with rural areas elsewhere in the north and Midwest than the big cities. Plenty of Hispanics across the South now. Florida is different, always has been. |
It's true. Not to mention the fact that they are falling into the same trap as someone from France who says they hate all Americans because we elected Trump. Which seems to me like painting with the broadest possible brush, and denying empathy to those who most need it. Also, both NC and Georgia are purple and have been for as long as I've been alive. |
+1 You can always tell who's was educated in the south. |
what does Evangelical mean? |
What's wrong with Boston? Are you saying it's racist? |
Funny how the people on this website tell you not to go to any of these places, DC is the mecca, the one and only. Everywhere else is "racist" yet no one wants to say that HELLO VA IS THE SOUTH, City of Alexandria was a HUGE slave trade port. You all sound like hypocrites. Everywhere but DC and VA is racist. Come on. |
Are you not, yourself, "living with MAGA"? Why not move out of the US if that's your standard? |
LOL - saying this as a VERY liberal mid-atlantic person for life. You need to look up some history/get out more. |
F u c k n o I'd rather die than live with MAGA trash. |
No, I do not interact with MAGA trash on a daily basis. My town voted <20% Trump and very few live in my neighborhood. Cut out MAGA friends and family long ago. Life is better without the a-holes and lies. |
Completely false. Many can't afford to leave. Also, if you never understand what real agency is, you become accustomed to the way you are treated. It's not until you leave that you realize that you were not empowered. I'm black. I've lived in the South 2x - Atlanta and Charlotte. I have NO desire to live in the South again ever. I find that black people in the South are not empowered like they are in the DMV. They don't have power or agency. They may have a great job but they are grateful instead of understanding that they are in the job because they are good at what they do. There's also a lot more opportunity here. |
A lot of purported black “power or agency” in the DC area comes from federal employment and there’s no group that’s been more adverse affected by the federal cutbacks than black women. |
It depends on how you are. If you are black, queer or latino, the south isn't feeling so great. |
