DC Public and Public Charter Schools
Same. I hope they are open because I don’t want days added in June, but either way they just need to decide. |
We got a lot more than snow and that’s the problem. It was a very unusual and dangerous storm. https://www.washingtonpost.com/weather/2026/01/26/dc-winter-storm-snow-sleet-explained/ |
| The fact that DC has not made an announcement yet is so disrespectful to families and staff. |
Again, you are not reading the PP. Here is what they said: "I thought it was way out of bounds to tell staff that they were to wfh today (for records day). Sorry, but teachers are people too who have to clear snow, provide childcare, feed children, etc." But that's literally what all most of us had to do today -- parent kids who were home while also working. So how is it "out of bounds" for DCPS to ask teachers and staff to do what most other working parents were also doing? I wasn't complaining about having to parent today, I was pointing out that no DCPS teacher/staff had to do anything today that other parents didn't also have to do. How is that "out of bounds?" And yes I'm snippy because I'm super sick and running a fever and still spent the day working, clearing the sidewalk, and taking care of my kids. Right now I'm confined to my daughter's room because I'm trying not to get anyone else in the family sick, and waiting on DCPS to make a decision about tomorrow so that my spouse and I can figure out how we are going to triage whatever the plan is (i.e. what leave we each might need to take, how we will get kids to school if open given that our street is still not plowed, etc.). Again, eff you for attacking instead of attempting to understand. Good day. |
This would be our first snow day of the year. I believe they build in buffer for 1-2 days? In the past they have not added days to the end of the school year for just 1-2 snow days. |

My neighborhood (Ward 2, center city-ish) is usually pretty well-plowed and I just walked a few blocks to the pharmacy and things look bad. Lots of blocks that have clearly only had one pass of the plow and are deep with slushy snow (including ones with schools on them). Some blocks that haven't been plowed at all. Lots of sidewalks where residents or commercial owners or churches haven't even tried to clear.
And it's going to be 5 degrees in the morning? I can't imagine they are going to open school. |
I think some teachers don't realize how entitled they sound... |
There is no buffer but the calendar has identified which days will be snow make up days. |
Man, you're a piece of work, lady. Why don't you just shut up and stop writing the same long post again and again?go parent your kids. They're hungry. Feel better. |
Says the teacher who refuses to do the job she's being paid to do. |
It is crazy how many streets haven’t been plowed in the city yet. Just because major roads are plowed doesn’t mean people can drive out of unplowed side streets. |
Go jump in a snow bank, b. |
I'm not a teacher. I'm a dcps parent who worked from home today. But I loathe posters like PP who tries to argue a point on DCUM as if it matters. And did it while she was sooooo sick, AND working, AND parenting! She's my hero. |
Before 6pm. Thank goodness. |
