Jaywalking is kind of a gentle way to describe running across Georgia or Connecticut Avenue in dark clothes at night, but there have been a number of people killed doing this. No need to be speeding. |
If you live in the area you know that there are long stretches without crosswalks. These are not pedestrian friendly communities yet we are building housing based on the assumption not everyone is driving. So how do you expect people to get around? The pedestrian infrastructure on Georgia Ave in particular but also Connecticut and University is disgraceful. |

The crosswalks they put in are stupid. They are just lines on the road. There are no lights to activate, and I can’t see how pedestrians would truly be any safer for being in that type of crosswalk at night than just jay walking. It’s a false sense of security. |

It’s pretty easy to avoid being hit by a car. It just requires being patient long enough to wait for a moment when there are no cars.
I realize how simplistic this sounds, but in my occupation I’ve seen several people die because they couldn’t wait a few seconds longer to get across the street and buy a lottery ticket or pack of cigarettes. I’m not making this up. |

How long do you think you need to wait to cross 7 lanes of highway? What do you do if you start crossing and a car comes that you couldn’t see when you started crossing? |
Not to mention that the human mind isn't really equipped to estimate how fast a car speeding at 60mph at night is going to approach you when you're three lanes across. |
| The police no longer enforce traffic laws. There is speeders and stop sign runners everywhere. You have a county council members wanting the police to back off the traffic enforcement. You no longer have to call 911 for an emergency. You have to go to your local donut shop or chipotle's get them. |
Wow, a cop and donut joke. How original. |
Well....it is true, isn't it? Even in this day and age ?
|
I’ve literally never seen a cop at Chipotle or a donut shop. |
| Went to Costco today and the speed camera is back, as I predicted it would be early in this thread. It’s closer to St. Paul than it was before as well. |
Yes, police said in September it would be back the first week of October. |
