I graduated with double bachelor's degree in math and physics and I couldn't find even a teaching job..I went into a deep depression because I felt I did everything right graduated fifth in my class and nothing to show for. Then miraculously I won the green card lottery. It took only 3 months for me to find a job in the US. I was shocked. Now in fairness this was 3 years ago, so if it was in today's economy I probably would be struggling as well.

But I think American college graduates are starting to experience what a lot of college graduates around the world go through year after year. What worries me most is that there is such a high expectation in this country that if you go to college, get a degree, then a job will be ready for you eventually. I think we may have to reset expectations.

If we do that, it means we are expecting that we are no longer exceptional.

Haven't been for years.

Then you’ll never work in politics again, or worse, end up in jail.

Law enforcement.

That is one job. That is not plentiful. Computer science grads don’t want to work in law enforcement like MAGA doesn’t want to pick berries.

Current White House staff will have the opportunity to work in the next Republican administration under President Vance. Then, with any luck, we will have President Stephen Miller and perhaps even President Charlie Kirk.

Apart from all the hustle to earn money and get a job...

He needs to use online platforms to learn new skills in computers,
he needs to get certified more by using free resources,
make apps and put it on app-store,
get a masters,
tutor kids in CS,
take online classes,
work on his health and appearance,
change his diet to a more healthy diet,
learn how to cook/do laundry/clean/declutter,
start selling stuff on FB marketplace,
pick up stuff from Trash Nothing website and resell,
Sell all the crap in the house at FB marketplace,
Write children books
Think of an online game

Yup. Drive to Loudoun's Ashburn area (Broadlands). Huge influx of South Asians working in the high tech sector. They live in expensive new housing developments with bells and whistles, drive fancy vehicles, and have a SAHP. Their high salaries make it possible.

In a world where SAHP is now a distant dream for most Americans, high paying STEM jobs are being funneled specifically to immigrant South Asians.

But why? I thought the point of H1B was to pay them less.

Yes, you’ve made it clear you like mediocre white men.

It’s not what I want. I mean, I don’t have the power to select the next president.

Unemployed CS grads don’t make money. They may need to pivot. See below from the posted thread where you only skimmed the first post. I guess they could live at home and DoorDash with their diminished degree.

I looked up the highest starting law enforcement salary within the greater D.C. area and was surprised to learn that it’s the SCOTUS Police Department. I had no clue they had their own police. For the 5’ tall PP something like this might be a good fit. I read that many of these officers make $200k+ with overtime. They also offer a massive $50k hiring bonus.

$50,000 hiring bonus:

$20,000 after completion of training
$15,000 after one year
$15,000 after two years

Salary:

$83,362 – Entry-level
$91,848 – After 30 months (Private First Class)
$142,513 – Maximum base salary at the Private First Class rank
$149,638 – Maximum base salary at the Corporal/Technician rank
$160,664 – Maximum base salary at the Sergeant rank

I came to the US on student visa then went on OPT and then H1B. I went back to my country 2 years ago for a great job opportunity. I cannot speak for others, but in my case there has been a clear bias on favour of foreign workers at many tech firms. The reason tech firms enjoy employing foreign workers is because we are more likely to be "docile" and just go ahead with all kind of BS thrown out way. Second, we are also more likely to remain in the same company for years. And finally there is this belief (which is BS) that foreign workers are somehow as good as American engineers or better.

I’ve asked many colleagues (government agencies) what their kids are doing this summer or where they’re working and discovers very few had regular jobs. My colleagues didn’t want them to have to work like they did or felt as if their kids are too good to work fast food and retail jobs.

When I was a hiring manager (entry level IT, help desk and sales for well known media company) of recent college grads, I eliminated candidates with no work experience and often hired candidates who worked retail or restaurants through college because I knew they could hustle and had drive (and I was right).

This. I mean every week we get questions on this forum about parents saying "hey we have $10 millions...when can we start passing it down to DD". I feel bad for their kids.
