The solution is to rethink our healthcare system. Obamacare expanded insurance coverage with the premise that if there was more coverage, there would be more preventive care and less emergency room usage (a huge part of the high cost).

Not sure that’s happened.

It’s been 10 years and I certainly think it’s time reevaluate.

Problem is I don’t think Trump/Musk have enough empathy for humans to make good decisions.

I told my husband that if he keeps me alive, obtunded on a vent, I will come back to haunt him. But yes we have nursing homes where people "live" like this with very expensive care - major stroke, nonfatal gunshot wound to head, anoxic brain injury, etc.

Totally agree. We need Medicare for all and not Medicare Advantage for all since this kind of Medicare is run by for profit insurance companies and bilks lot of money from our government and loves to deny care). We also need our government to negotiate drug prices for all drugs as they do in other countries.

The problem with Medicaid and Medicare is not waste, and abuse its policy created by Congress that doesn't allow for flexibility and negotiation. The states themselves are also a big challenge.

More importantly, the biggest inefficiencies that cause more money to be spent are not a secret. There are reports published on them. DOGE just needs to read. Its fixing them in sustainable ways that don't harm people that is challenging.

Wouldn't be a lot cheaper to just have national healthcare like other first world nations? I mean sure it would cost the government more but ultimately the overall spending on healthcare in the uS would be a fraction of what it is now. Other countries spend roughly 25%-30% per person of what the US does and have better overall outcomes.

It did not happen. As someone who has had healthcare coverage through the ACA for many of the past 10 years, I can tell you that it did not work. Is having the ACA better than before without it? Yes, but specifically only in the fact that pre-existing conditions no longer preclude you from coverage.

You can get coverage, sure. But does that coverage you pay for cover anything? Eh.

The number of doctors and facilities that accept many of the ACA health plans dwindle each year. I've not had a consistent doctor for the past 10 years because of this. I'll find one, go to them for a year or maybe 2, and then get a notice that they will not be participating with my insurance for the next year. Also, many facilities incorrectly have the ACA plans grouped in with Medicaid plans, I'm assuming because the same companies provide the coverage, and so, so, SO many doctors in this area won't accept Medicaid plans.

I ran into this when I needed to switch endocrinologists after mine notified me in November that they were no longer going to accept Anthem HealthKeepers in 2025. I found a new doc using my insurance portal, made the appointment with a lady on the phone who said they accepted my insurance, but when I showed up, their system said my insurance was Medicaid (it is not) and not accepted. "I spoke with a Donna when I made the appointment who checked for me. This place is also listed on my insurance app as covered." "Yeah, see, if I type it in here it says we accept it, but the system won't accept it because it's a type of Medicaid." "I don't have Medicaid. This is through the ACA. Medicaid is Anthem HealthKeepers Plus. This is Anthem HealthKeepers Silver." "Our system says it's a Medicaid plan which we don't accept. There's nothing I can do." Awesome. PTO wasted for nothing.

California gets more Medicaid funding than the entire state budget of Florida.

Old people get Medicare. I said Medicaid.

Actually most old people in nursing homes are on medicaid.

This and it is incredibly difficult to navigate the system. No way are illegal aliens on Medicaid.
