Goodbye TikTok (for now)

There’s an op ed by a 17yo TikTok user in the NYT today who is grateful for the ban because she and her peers are so addicted to TikTok and have lost the ability to think for themselves.

Okay this could have happened on YouTube as well. Wasn’t Justin Bieber first noticed on a YouTube video? And that singer with the Patti Labelle “Patti pies” singing its praises became a backup singer because of his YouTube breakout fandom singing about the pies. What was unique about tic toc that is making people lose their minds when there is concern about national security. I honestly don’t get it and nobody has been able to help me understand the angst.

The national security concerns are way overblown. If they were worried about China having access to information they would ban their shopping apps too. The olds in Congress don't understand any of this. This is about American social media companies not wanting the competition. And it is TikTok.

TikTok security concerns have been spelled out in detail. No one who uses this app has the attention span to read all the way through and remember.

Temp and all the other junk sites operate differently.

There are no security concern that are national security.

Sorry but your poor grammar isn’t helping your case. Hard to find you credible

So no intelligent input just insults. No wonder your dim child is badly affected by SM thenutdoesnt fall far.

How can you hate something you’ve never even tried?

You sound like my 4 year old when they say they don’t like a food they’ve never tried.

I say the same thing about crack cocaine all the time.

Way to lose credibility and put down the wine.

You’re right. TikTok is totally not addictive at all. Harmless fun. Our kids are getting smarter by spending hours on it every day.

I just hired an intern because they know how to edit video because of tik tok, I’m sorry your kid is a slug just watching crap.

My kid doesn’t watch it all. I’m old and I know how to edit video without TikTok.

Obesity is an epidemic. I hope they ban sugar next. Where are all the “take responsibility for your actions”, “pull yourself up by your bootstraps” crowd?

Watching those hearings was like watching video of someone explaining to grandpa how to turn the flashlight off on his phone. I have yet to understand the issue. Basically Meta was losing market share bc it’s an inferior platform and Zuck made this up. Not that complicated. Tik tok has my phone number and that’s it. Not sure what the worry is.

Trump posted on his propaganda site today that he is going to “unban” it and wants the US to own 50% of TT. Who knows what that means. State media already?

Eh. I won’t miss it.

I’d support this

If you’re celebrating ban of TT be honest with yourself and delete fb and ig, and x if you still on it. Otherwise you’re a hypocrite.

He didn’t say that specifically.

Remember when people had the newspaper delivered to their homes every day and that's where they received the news?

Remember when Walter Cronkite delivered the news?

Oh no. We're going to miss those 30 second dance videos.
