Traveling internationally is going to be a challenge as an American

Anonymous
The bigger issue is when the american population is unvaccinated, countries will be asking for proof of vaccinated to travel to their countries, including those in the EU.

I'm currently in Australia and no issues. 95% of people have no idea where I'm from because I don't walk around in a costume that identifies me as American. The other 5% I talk with are far more interested in me as a person and not some personification of America. The only person who mentioned Trump to me was another American.

i mean yes, seriously.

i’m in southeastern europe right now for work and in talking to a local, she said while europe is concerned about the future of NATO, most people here wanted Trump to win.

I have family in southeastern Europe, visit every year, speak the language, and follow the local news, and except for the occasional person that shares Trump’s hatred of migrants, most people are shocked by the Trump win. Quite a few texted me after the election to say WTF? I’d be curious to know which country “wanted Trump to win.”

lol. typical. you haven’t experienced it so my discussion with another southeastern european could not possibly be true!

cyprus, that’s where.

Well I was talking about nearby Greece and my sample group is more than one person.

Greece is notoriously one of the most brutal and antagonistic countries towards refugees in Europe. Tell your family to fix the attitudes and policies about migrants at home before talking about what we do in the US.

Greek here. I agree the country--or at least the government--has a terrible track record with refugees. What I said in an earlier post is that when I hear/read positive things about Trump in Greece, it's usually about his attitude towards migrants. Meaning the people that like him tend to also not like migrants and they like that he talks tough about migrants. But the negative comments have to do with Jan. 6, the lack of normalcy surrounding Trump and his whole circus, and the fear that he will be a destabilizing force in the world. This from an article in a Greek newspaper today: "The Trump effect continues to dominate the global agenda, including in our region, as analysts and politicians try to decipher how the unpredictable President-elect will handle various portfolios and crises during his second term."

I travel there often. There is a big (huge) disconnect between Greek TV media commentators/politicians and the views of regular people, especially with the Greek government's adoption of left-of-center cultural issues over the last couple of years. They have been in full retreat since the Trump win due to the boiling undercurrent of discontent due to those policies.

But ask any foreigner if he or she thinks it’s great to have zero time constraints on abortion. Or if it’s peachy to have an open border. Or if it’s crazy to expect voters to be citizens with an ID. Or if penises belong in women’s sports or locker rooms. Or if giving drug addicts free drugs is a great way to handle addiction.

This simply isn't true from top to bottom.

Nice complete lack of logic and evidence in your claim.

When I traveled in Europe during his first reign I got asked about it multiple times and in several countries about electing DT. Yes they were flabbergasted at how the biggest most impressive ever dumpster fire was elected to hold the office of President. Most of the rubes don't even travel outside 'Merica so they don't really how much disdain the world has for them.

I have my first trip since the election, tmro and I don't feel safe as an American knowing that we put so may people around the world in danger. I do think this is so so so similar to the rise of Hitler that it won't end well or happily. I do have dual citizenship with Ireland. My only regret is doing this after I had kids. We travel a lot personally and professionally and never got those questions before nor right now. And we have parents living abroad as well.

Stop making up $hit PP.

Glad they watch so much CNN and can’t tell opinion from fact.

🤣

Of course they don’t like Trump! Why should they?

He puts AMERICA first.

That is exactly why he won the election.

No worries! We vax our 2,500,000 a year of illegals at the border town detention centers!

They get all caught up in their vaccinations, get free health appointments and free dental plus a free back pack to fill up as they sort through free clothes and free shoes. Then after several days of fee meals and free lodging, they are released with a free bus ride to the city if their choice.

I heard those Americans all have black rotten teeth too.

Something about they merely heard fluoride wouldn’t be added to the water supply and their nice shiny white American straight teeth all turned black and fell out.

Wowzers.

I feel this way as well. No desire to be polite after the last four years.

Agree. I am tired of it.

The constant hate, division, closed-mindedness, and derision from the progressives was just too much.

Apparently, more than half of the American voting population agrees. This election was not as “razor thin” as we were promised.

Definitely share that thought with your foreign hosts. They will be delighted.

They understand what happened here because it happens to them too. Many countries are struggling with disinformation and foreign interference including Moldova and others. Putin is winning, unfortunately.

You're completely wrong about that. For starters, look up how many Americans have been taken hostage in Lebanon going back 40 years. Then refresh your memory about Americans falsely arrested in Russia. Or consider how Americans are constantly a target in parts of Africa. As for general harassment in Europe, that's not typically a problem. Instead, it's the endless questions about American politics that pop up in seemingly innocuous places--shops, restaurants, hotel lobbies, parties thrown by friends of friends and friends of family. I'm married to an Italian, and frankly it exhausts me to have to explain US politics whenever we are in Europe.

be smart about where to travel. we are not entitled to step into any place in the world and assume to be safe just because we are American. and stop explaining US politics to people if you don’t want to. you are a grownup, nobody is making you do anything.

Well depends on where you travel. Are you talking about pathetic dem worshipping neo liberal Europeans? Majority of the world hates Kamala and the Biden administration so Kamala losing is not an issue. But people do hate America in general. So I guess you are probably right. Best thing to do is to dig a hole a stay there. The world will be a better place without a supporter of an administration committing genocide.
