Traveling internationally is going to be a challenge as an American

Anonymous
I travel internationally, weekly, to different countries all over the world. I had to buy a Kamala 2024 shirt off of amazon to wear under a blazer when I'm out and about. PRIOR to this election going al the way back to 2015, I got asked by people all over the world, in complete disbelief and incomprehension, by strangers mind you, "how on Earth did DT get elected/how is he the candidate again/what happened to America." I have my first trip since the election, tmro and I don't feel safe as an American knowing that we put so may people around the world in danger. I do think this is so so so similar to the rise of Hitler that it won't end well or happily. I do have dual citizenship with Ireland. My only regret is doing this after I had kids. My kids who the youngest is a junior in college--are in their early 20s and if they all had EU passports I would easily move. I still may in a few years.

I went to school overseas during the height of the Iraq War.

There were anti-Bush posters everywhere on campus, but no one hassled me personally.

People may have been horrified but you were not (and are not now) unsafe. There is a difference.

I was just in Ireland and Northern Ireland last week--on election day and the days following it.

No one attacked me for being American. It's fine.

Umm I travel a ton, and did back in the 2016-2020 years, and while I got a few questions especially around 2016/2017, it was never more than curiosity. This can’t be real?

Plenty of other places are going through this swing to the hard right. Just say you didn't support Trump. They will understand.
