Its something when the average poster on here is both more diligent and competent than a possible Senator.

Tons of people make mistakes on the taxes. Do you live in the US? Our tax system sucks.

A county executive who is in charge of tax collections not knowing how to do her local taxes is a little different than a machinist or hair dresser making the same mistake. These things should be in her core competency, and she made at least four "mistakes."

Democrats really should have picked someone else.

Had we known about the Tax fraud issues, we probably would have chosen a better candidate but it's too late in the game to play Monday morning QB and at the end of the day, it's all about preventing the GOP from gaining that Senate seat.

I’d prefer a candidate who pays their state taxes correctly. I’m not a blind voter like you, PP. Angela would have received a notice in the mail every year that she received the senior tax credit so she’s lying about her ignorance. That’s how property tax credits work. All through the mail and the courthouse.

I'd prefer Hogan any day in a Maryland governor's race. Relative to the low bar set by other state governors in modern times, he was a solid executive and fair leader. In a US Senate race during the Trump era, I have to choose the Dem candidate since balance of power in the Senate and therefore in our Federal Government is at stake. Alsobrooks could be a George Santos and from what i am hearing, may be a George Santos, but I'd still vote for her in this case.

And this is the logical conclusion of "Blue no matter Who." This is how we end up with a government full of partisan dunces.

Then you can blame the GOP who elect partisan dunces like Tuberville, the idiotic football coach who thinks that wasting taxpayer money, and denying hard serving military officers their promotions and leaving our military branches without their commanders, is an effective way to protest. Blame the GOP who think that Kennedy of Louisiana is some sort of bright bulb. Blame the GOP who elected JD Vance, who his showing that a Yale degree does not guarantee intelligence and that it is possible for adult males near their prime to lose IQ points every time they talk. With the GOP electing so many hard-liners who vote en masse, then the Democratic states need to vote for bulwark senators to hold the line against those who are ultimate partisans. The GOP started hard-lining back in the days of Newt Gingrich and the rise of the Tea Party. They were the first to elect out their moderates who were the conciliators and concession makers. After this, the blue dog Democrats were elected out and now we have very few moderates left to craft bipartisan agreements across the aisle.

If your argument is "we have to elect partisan dunces to counteract the other-side's partisan dunces" then you don't really have a viable democracy anymore. Might as well just find an under-employed Habsburg and save everyone the stress.

Dp. I don't think that's what PP is saying. Another PP above (you?) asserts that voting for Alsobrooks constitutes voting for a "partisan dunce". I think PP points out that the real "dunces" are on the right. Look, I wasn't a fan of Paul Ryan or John McCain but they weren't dunces. The current GOP only allows dunces.

Alsobrooks is not a "dunce" by any stretch, only someone who doesn't know anything about her beyond her tax errors would say that. Do you live remotely near Prince George's County or are you the person who thinks it's a 40,000 person "town"?

Yes, this is what I was saying. Both parties used to have higher standards for their elected officials. Now, it's just anyone who will toe the party line. Once upon a time, many of the candidates had state experience in some form of government, whether governor, state senator, state delegate, etc. Now, you have a lot more crazy outsiders who are trying to come in an change the way Congress does business without any concept of why Congress does things. So they are creating dysfunction in both legislating and in management of the legislature. It's like slow-motion watching the two parties actively try to ignite the burning of Rome.

She probably isn't a dunce and I'd rather see a Dem take this Senate seat but the fact that she made the jump to the national political stage without first cleaning up her tax misrepresentation mess first doesn't speak volumes for her or her campaign's general wherewithal.

The absolute best case scenario is she's a person that doesn't sweat the details. I'm guessing no one is expecting her to write any legislation, just vote as the party tells her though.

PG County mails the same notices regarding awarded tax credits to homeowners that DC does. If Alsobrooks isn’t lying, that’s interesting that she is the only homeowner in both jurisdictions not to receive those notices in the mail. They each state the penalties should the qualifications for the credits change if the homeowner doesn’t notify the county (city). I know this because I have owned property in DC that qualified for the homestead deduction and I own property in PG County that does not qualify for tax credits or deductions.

Good. No Hogan.

If people are seriously considering a convicted felon and adjudicated r*pist in Trump, a property tax snafu isn't going worry any prospective voter with Alsobrooks.

I have to confess to you that my DH and I underpaid our taxes by a couple thousand a couple of years ago. Something to do with an IRA. When we were notified of the issue, we paid up with interest.

It happens that since that time we have both been promoted in our jobs to roles with significant responsibility. And yes, we both work with numbers and sweat the details, but everybody makes mistakes.

I can certainly understand being troubled by this tax issue of Alsobrooks, but it seems preposterous to describe it as somehow disqualifying by itself.

She probably isn't a dunce and I'd rather see a Dem take this Senate seat but the fact that she made the jump to the national political stage without first cleaning up her tax misrepresentation mess first doesn't speak volumes for her or her campaign's general wherewithal.

Of course it doesn't disqualify her! It's something that should have been noticed and corrected before she ran for a national Senate seat but then again most of our congress men and women have similar baggage.

She made four such mistakes. Why is no democrat caring? Hogan is a hardworking, decent man. She is not!

I really believe she needs to be immediately indicted and her prosecution fast-tracked.

Because many of us have gone through the confusing process of dealing with property transfers while grieving. It’s complicated, particularly as it’s something most of us only do once in our lives. It’s a small, fixable mistake. And yes, I’d say that if a similarly decent Republican or Independent were in a situation like this.

Good. No Hogan.

If people are seriously considering a convicted felon and adjudicated r*pist in Trump, a property tax snafu isn't going worry any prospective voter with Alsobrooks.

Agreed but realize they are held to completely different standards. A black woman D cannot get away with anything close to what Trump can.
