MCPS welcomed 42 educators from the Philippines as part of the district’s cultural exchange program on Friday morning.

Not an "exchange" but OK

“Programs like these are vital because they open doors to new perspectives, fostering a more inclusive environment where everyone can thrive,” said Danillya Wilson, vice president of the Montgomery County Education Association (MCEA).

Absolute babble. These people don't speak from the brain, just from a soundboard of catchphrases.

Ella Braley, director of human capital management for the district, said this program will provide learning and collaboration.

“This program is an opportunity for MCPS to partner with our experienced teachers in the Philippines to come here and support our students. We can learn from them and they can learn from us."

We can learn how cheaply we can poorly staff our programs, and they can learn how America is destroying itself.

They forced teachers into retirement and out by cutting their jobs to fund this. It's a joke as they said they cut positions only to hide them under contracts. The BOE needs to be replaced. They used an exchange probably to get them through the visa process. MCPS and the company they contracted with are the only ones who win. These women are being taken advantage of.

They're so lucky to have this chance to be separated from their families so they can send money home from doing work that people in the US are not willing to do for the pay that is offered.

They’ve brought nurses over from the Philippines for years. Teaching and nursing are both underpaid for the level of education required so they’ve found their solution.

I’ve always had to buy my own housewares, bedding, etc. I’ve purchased the same things at IKEA in different countries! Sometimes the former teachers would leave things behind but that was rare. We were made aware of this during the hiring process and were told to bring money to cover all of these upfront expenses since we wouldn’t get our first paychecks until late September/early October.

Who cares what your experience was? This is MCPS not some international country. Your experience is not the same

Those are generally different programs with the overseas schools as you are working directly for the schools. Many of those countries were also much lower cost. These women got a bed, no bedding and a table and chairs. The agency could have been a bit more generous or at least tried more.

How does their pay compare to other MCPS teachers? Are they on the MCEA pay scale?

That’s exactly what I got when I taught overseas. Why is this so shocking to you? I got into my apartment in the Middle East and was so tired from traveling that I fell asleep in my clothes. No sheets. Nada. The next day was a trip to IKEA and the grocery store.

I’m guessing they get paid a good bit less than MCEA pay scale but I’m not sure.

What is their special education experience. I don’t believe the Philippines is known for exemplary special education services in their schools

Lol. Do you think the districts care about that? They need warm bodies without criminal records willing to do the job. They’ve driven away Americans who are tired of being overworked and unpaid. They’ve had enough of being treated like crap.

And who is going to train these new special educators? And who is going to help them through all the paperwork? Sounds like school based special educators will be having to step up.

I doubt there will be much training. The bare minimum I imagine.
Are these teachers even special education certified?
