Sounds like a good gig for the out-of-state football players. I seem to remember something similar last year about the Edison girls Volleyball or Basketball team, but nothing every came of that.

Edison girls basketball. They fired the coach, Edison people protested, and they rehired the coach.

Edison girls basketball team had players who lived in Maryland.

Edison, the best school in PG County! Also, I believe it was Reid who is responsible for reinstating the coach at Edison.

Sounds like a very good thing for actual homeless kids and I’m glad this federal service exists to help them.

Anyone who is abusing it, or telling kids to abuse to win sports games are absolutely disgusting people.

Agree. McKenney-Vento is such good, important policy. It's a lifeline for kids who need it most and I don't want to see those kids put through the ringer to prove eligibility. Seeing it abused is enraging.

Seeing it abused for football is even more enraging.

Hayfield should forfeit its football season if the allegations are accurate.

That's exactly why they are abusing it. What admin says “prove it” to a kid or family leveraging it? Not happening in 2024.

Admin/staff are not allowed to question a claim of homelessness. Shocking that Hayfield is willing to risk VHSL investigation and the sanctimony of the Friday Night Lights.

Has anyone found a link to the Fairfax County Football Coaches Association? The letter has no address or signature, and every search I've used for the organization points back to the Times piece.

Why not? How hard can it be to investigate a claim of homelessness and find out it's true? False claims of homelessness should be even easier to figure out.

Would not be surprised if they refuse to field teams against Hayfield if appropriate action is not taken.

The Hayfield Student Services director who was transferred to another school is my neighbor. I had no idea this was going on but heard she got switched to a different school. She’s a great person and cares about Hayfield. She deserves an apology and her job at Hayfield back.

She had to know this was happening.

Please read before you post. That’s literally the point. She went to the principal with concerns over the transfers and then they transferred her to a different school.

EC will do fine at Annandale. I believe the message to others in her wake is that it may not be prudent to shine a light on something best left unilluminated ... unless you're looking for new endeavors.

+1

While Hayfield sometimes has its challenges, it is a great community of teachers, adminisrators and families. It is harmful to the entire community when an experienced administrator is removed because she questioned what was going on. Especially if it is done merely as part of a quest to obtain a high school championship.

The #hayfieldby40 hashtag is shameful and really has no place in high school sports. But if that's what the new principal is striving for, good luck retaining experienced educators who live in and care about the community.

How about #homelessby40?

Actual homeless kids will be the ones hurt most by this type of nonsense.

For someone who everyone says is so great and upstanding and such a leader, for Overton to allegedly encourage kids to lie about this for football is beyond shameful.
