Landon parent here. 22:51, you're quite wrong. Yes, Landon has a lot of school pride and the students there LOVE the school. So yes, they think their school is the BEST out there. However, I know that parents know that there are schools out there in the DC Metropolitan Area which are superior to Landon in academics and athletics. I know that Sidwell, STA, and St. Aslems(pardon if my spelling is wrong) are better than Landon at academics. Then depending on the sport, there a schools which are more accomplished than Landon. Bottom line, don't generalize a community of any academic institution. |
Seriously? Don't the two schools get into all sorts of antics before games against each other (GP paints the rocks at Landon a different color, who knows what else). |
I really believe that some at Landon want the school to change. I also know that some at the school believe it is being unfairly criticized and are digging their heels in against any significant reform. So, from my point of view, its premature to say Landon has changed or is changing. That's a story that will play out over the next several years, not during the first few days of a new school year. |
PP-
Yes many parents feel Landon is being unfairly criticized in the press. However, there are significant changes that are happening at the school, and from what I have seen, nobody is digging in their heels at these changes. If they are, there heels aren't working very well. |
PP. I get it. I really do. Lots of people want the school to change. However, I worry that people will say - ``Oh look, we've changed,'' Then sit back and chill out. It's not magic. It takes lots of hard work and there are bound to be ups and downs. This is going to be a long process and the school - in its entirety - needs to be in it in the long haul. I believe its going to take several years for Landon to prove to itself that change can be excellent. |
Wow, your last sentence is an interesting comment. I know many people at GP and Landon and have been to a number of functions involving parents at both schools. The athletic rivalry is fascinating to observie. But overall, from what I've seen, the inferiority complex is the other way around. In a very one side way. |
Landon is defined by the political ties it has - who it lets in as new students, as well as existing students. If the school admits students who are barred from other places, then that will (should/does) signal something. |
We've heard stories about a particular private school. We've also read and know that there is great rancor bordering on hatred between rival private schools.
This one private school in particular seems to be the poster child for everything that is wrong with private schools. It seems that the classroom instruction and classroom management were both very poor, the quantity homework was excessive, and the following day's classes were just a review of the previous night's homework. In essence families were paying $30k plus to home school their children. They had some of the most deviant students and abusive deceitful administrators that anyone could ever imagine. It was a single sex school that had about 688 students. Some students were accepted and others were ostracized. Think for a moment exactly how isolated this school and its community must be from the rest of the world. There are about 688 students and half of them hate each other. Then add to this fact that the members of this school community feel elite in relation to public schools and they are generally despised by the rest of the private school community. No wonder their students are insane. Their parents are paying $30k plus to keep them living and attending school in solitary confinement. Tonight we attended a public school football game and there were thousands of people in attendance. There were boys and girls, and entire families present. We gave a couple of dollars to about five groups who approached us for fund raising activities. We didn't care which school they were from. Why would we? They're kids . . . why not give them a couple of bucks. Both sides cheered for their own teams and not a harsh word was spoken against the opposing school or the opposing team. All were cheerful when they arrived and all were gracious when they departed. Think about it . . . there's a place on the team for everyone who wants to play and everyone is respected as a teammate. The teams played each other tough, but neither team ran up the score and all of the adults supported each other's children. Do yourselves a favor. Early in this football season, attend a public school football game and them attend a private school football game and determine for yourselves which is the more healthy environment. |
PP, what private school are you talking about? That private school must be terrible the way you talk of it. |
excessive homework. Students that hate each other or let me say a group of deviant bros who are hated by most. Hard drinking, lots of pot, and abusive to women. Although their usual women types don't really regard random BJ's as abusive. Expect girls to put out fully in 3 weeks or less and harrass and intimidate girls who don't put out. And I'm not referring to the 688 .... |
What's difference from College Football and National Football? Doing it in private school is wrong but can do in real life? |
HUH? |
I don't get the last few posts. Period. |
How many kids transferred from Landon to GP this fall? |
I know of one boy who went to GP this year. He was in the Slampig Class of '13. Don't know about any others. |
