My DS is new to Landon this year and athletic tryouts just ended yesterday. Without hesitating, I can tell you that the Landon community is a special one from what I have seen so far. The boys are so welcoming to my DS, the teachers seem to be very friendly, and parents have the urge to want to get to know you. So far, so good. I am glad that this recent letter has cleared up some of Landon's views for the future.
To the OP: I would sincerely encourage you to take a deep look into Landon for your DS. I can't speak for how competitive everything(academics and arts) get during the school year or how good the teachers are because the school year has yet to start. However, so far I feel as if the community is quite welcoming and friendly. I am sure you will be pleased from what you see.

My son is at Landon. I think every schools has its own culture and characters. You will choose which one you want to be in or want your son to be like. After visiting STA, Maret, GP, we happened to like Landon better but that doesn't mean other schools are inferior or not as good. It's the kids not the school who makes the difference.

Note: We are looking at the preferably non-sectarian, somewhat structured, and moderate liberal school.

I hope you're a poser pp. I went to Catholic Schols for 12 years and we didn't act like that...i.e. trashing other schools/people.

GP fan just reflects on his/her self more than anything. Most people, with a little research, realize that there's a big fork in the decision making road between these two. Aside from parents who are obsessed with lacrosse and see those 2 schools only in that light, few actually waver in picking one over the other. For some GP fans, there is still an inferiority complex where they have to publicly trash Landon's name.

10:24, your comment just shows a little bit of the harsh bitterness between Landon and GP off the field. I don't think anyone has lived until they have seen Landon and GP's rivalry.

Believe me, there is no inferiority complex between either Landon or Prep. Each firmly believes that his respective school is superior to any in the Washington area. Too bad they're both wrong.
